I posted a couple of weeks ago asking how important daily milk intake is for the under 1s. As per my original message I have dropped all but the morning feed and I feel as if I have very little milk for that one feed.

ds2 will not drink formula or cow's milk and only sips water occasionally from his cup. I don't think he likes milk!! He will not take a bottle so I have decided not to offer it again and stick with his spouted cup. I am not unduly worried as he seems fine but I must say he does not appear to be drinking very much of anything. His nappies are not heavy like they used to be but they are not dry either. He eats LOADS.

Should I be concerned????

Do you make homemade food or feed him jars? A lot of the jars have a lot of water in so if he's munching his way through them he might be getting more fluid than you think. You could add water to his food if you want. Ask your HV what she thinks.

Weetabix mixed with fruit and cow's milk for breakfast, I make lunch (usually fish or chicken in cheese sauce) and a jar for dinner. Desserts are yoghurts or fruit purees.

So he may be getting much more fluid than it looks, but I'd still check with the hv - how old is he?

Good question... doh. Should have said he is 8 months.

I'd keep a diary of what exactly he has (so you can track the fluids) and ask your HV.

As long as he doesn't get dehydrated he should be ok, and you can tell that from things like wet nappies, whether there's tears when he cries.

Don't have much time to contribute as its the school run but will try later. I'm in a very similar position. dd2 is approaching 9 months and I'm now down to simply a night feed but I don't think she takes that much. I'm struggling with water but I struggled with dd1 and now she rarely drinks anything else. With Milk whilst dd2 doesn't reject it she doesn't really often settle down for a good feed - instead she seems to find the cap wonderful to gnaw (she's teething). She has very wet nappies so I'm not desperately worried and she loves milky things such as porridge and yoghurts. However I would still prefer to see her drinking her pint quota of milk a day + at least one cup of water.
