Infant feeding

When did your EBF baby start dropping night feeds?

DD2 is 11 weeks and normally feeds at 9pm, 3am, 5am and 7am. By this point DD1 was only having a feed at 9pm and then 4am and then straight through.

Obviously I know every baby is different but wondered when your LO started to drop feeds?

I was reading What to Expect in the First Year which suggested by three to four months they don't need the nourishment in the night if they're getting enough in the day. I just wondered if anyone who was EBF didn't offer the breast in the night after a certain age? And, if so, what age?

I'm still feeding my 6th month old about 3 times overnight I'm afraid! Going to try reducing this soon but I think it's very individual.

DS1 I night weaned at 13 months

Ds2 is 13 months and I am not planning on night weaning yet cos we co-sleep and I can't face the hassle. I'm Also very afraid of waking DS1 who is a very light sleeper Sad

Both my ebf babies went 11-5/6 at around 11/12 weeks. They both went into their own room at around the same time. They then went 7-7 around 5/6 months.

Thanks all. I'm only planning on ebf until 6 months but I think it's the inconsistent that's bothering me just now. There's no rhyme or reason to the feeds (even during the day) and I'm just feeding on demand. I did this with DD1 but she quickly slotted herself into a predictable three hourly schedule by three months. Clearly this was the exception rather than the rule!

DS1 was having two feeds (11pm and 4-5am) around 3 months, when he finally started feeding well during the day. The morning feed got gradually later and around 5 months it was around 6am.

DS2 fed beautifully from day 1 but only stopped breastfeeding at night at 27 months, when he stopped breastfeeding altogether. But he cannot sleep well even now (a year later), so I think he was awake anyway and fed to resettle himself.

Both started solids around 28 weeks, in both cases it made no positive difference to their sleep. In fact, DS2's sleep got worse, but that might have been because he hated all solids..,

At about 5 months dd stopped having any feeds during the night but still had a 10pm feed. At 6 months she dropped that. Sleeps 7/8pm - 7am (when her daddy gets her up for a nappy change) she has slept till 9am though when we've left her.
