Hi
Hope someone can help.
My daughter is 14 weeks, she has been breast fed, with top up of formula, she was sick every now and then. However, she seemed to go off BF, so on Thursday the two feeds I was still doing, I turned to formula. Since then, she has started to go off her milk, she has started to cry when feeding, and goes stiff as a board, reading some information, I thinkit is reflux, but can I do anything forher now, as its Sat and the Dr is closed, I will take her up on Monday but what about now, it breaks my heart to think that I have stopped feeding her as I thought she wasnt conteneted, but for her to be in this pain, am at my wits end.
Please help, am so upset x thank you x

DS1 was bottle fed and he had reflux, DS2 and DD1 were BF and they were both ok, if its not too late to go back to BF i would, even if you only manage small feeds to start with it would be worth while.

(((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))) - my LO has silent reflux and was diagnosed at 7 weeks. Like your LO he would go stiff/arch his back when fed and then refuse to feed or comfort feed. Please don't get distressed as there are lots of things you can do before Monday.

With a reflux baby they often like to be elevated - lift the head of the cot or wherever she sleeps(use the yellow pages under each leg of the cot)

Keep LO as upright as possible after a feed - this can help stop the milk coming back up so easily

Don't get too worried if LO isn't eating too much - for a day or so it won't be too bad. However, if she goes several hours without food and appears listless then you must see medical attention as she may be dehydrated (it is easily treated tho')

There are lots of Meds to help a baby with reflux - and some people feel cranial oesteopathy (sp) is helpful.

I am sorry you feel sad about giving up BF - i gave up BF my LO as he was taking so long to feed (as his tummy hurt) ... everyday you BF is a bonus.

If i can be of more help, please post again. Give your LO lots of hugs - she will be fine.

Just to add to what PPs have said - if you have only just given up BF you may be able to re-start.

don't think there is anything you can get from a chemist ... reflux really needs to be diagnosed by a GP. Try the elevation etc and try the BF again if you want to ... won't do any harm at all. Good luck.

Boop - breast milk is a natural antacid which may be why you've noticed it's got worse now you've cut it out. I'd echo others, if you can still BF just for a few more days you might help her be a bit more comfortable. Good luck with the GP on monday.

In the meantime you'll find some helpful info here . Big virtual hugs to you, reflux is awful for baby but equally upsetting for mums too. Hope the doc gets you sorted.
