Infant feeding

Shall I go cold turkey on the dream feed tonight?

DS is nearly 13 months. I've been giving him a dream feed between 21:45/22:30 every night.

He very rarely drinks the whole bottle - maybe 4/5 oz at most.

I don't think he needs it, it's just he's become used to it....

So to go cold turkey or not?

Try and see... pop a dummy in if baby wakes. Or have some weak juice instead so it's not a feed.

I would. Just see what happens. If it doesn't work and he wakes just start decreasing the amount gradually. I would expect at 13 months he definitely doesn't need it though, but he may wake from habit of having a dream feed at that time. Good luck! Hope he sleeps straight through.

Ok I'm going to do it..... I've got a bottle ready to go if I need it.

He does not have a dummy - he's a finger sucker so can self sooth if need be.

He refused it on Sunday night and went through till 07:15 - only offered it last night as he was not well during the day.

11 weeks pregnant with DC2 so totally knackered and could do with out it!

Aaahhh well - it all went to pot.....

21:30 and he had a massive coughing fit and woke himself up and would not settle back down without the dreaded bottle.....

Tonight I'm going to do it - I've not made any bottles up - tonight I will be strong!

does he fall to sleep at bedtime on the bottle? My two couldn't self settle and relied on the bottle to get to sleep, could this be similar like he's using it as a comfort? Any way I sympathise as I was still making up dreaded bottles until at least 18 months!! Arghhh

I forgot the dream feed when DS was about 3 months old. He woke up at the usual time. Maybe I was lucky...but I would take next opportunity to drop it. At 13 months he doesn't need it. Good luck.

Ok so we've not done a dream feed since Wednesday and all is well! He had a bit if a moan Wednesday night but it was in his sleep and since then he has not made a peep at night.

He has always been a crap feeder hence why I was still doing a dream feed as historically it was the easiest feed of the day! He settles very well and has never needed a bottle to give him a hand going down.

Steriliser and bottles have been relegated to the cupboard.... No more bottles woooo hoo!
