Reflux - positive stories to give me hope please!!

Hi all, DD2 has silent reflux and I seem to spend my life googling it to find out more / looking for miracle remedies etc! But in really this just depresses me more because all the forums seems to be full of people saying that their DCs had reflux for years and are still affected by it and taking medication for it at age 3/4/5...

Please can someone tell me it isn't like this for everyone - are there babies out there who improve within weeks/months rather than years? I just can't bear the thought that it will be like this for so long! Someone give me hope please!!

DS had reflux. Significantly improved by around 10 months, stopped all together by 14 months.

The reason you see more bad stories is people whose problems are resolved don't post looking for advice!

My DS had severe reflux. Started meds (lansaparazole) at 3 months and weaned off at 6/7 months. We also took out all citrus foods out of both of our diets, so no orange juice etc. once off meds, my LO was fine.

My little boy was on rinitadine between 4 and maybe 7 months. Made a huge difference and after a few unsuccessful attempts to stop a couple of weeks earlier he came off fine. Good luck, it is so upsetting and help depends on how good your GP is (I had a great GP but went to a terrible one for repeat prescription who nearly wouldn't give it to us as he didn't believe in the diagnosis)

Totally appreciate that Chopsypie, that's why I needed this thread! Grin

We've been prescribed Gaviscon so far but it's not really doing the job, I went back to the GP today but he just suggested upping the dose. He didn't even really seem sure about it being silent reflux even though a different GP thought it was, and the health visitor also agreed! Stepdoor, what was it like during the period when you were on the meds too? How much of a difference did they make?

Thanks all!

Two weeks on lansoparazole and we had a completely different baby - everyone noticed! No more constantly crying or upset, no more 10-20 min cat naps etc. however she did have multiple allergies too n settled properly later on when they were taken out of both of our diets.

OP, there's another silent reflux thread in this section, read that too.

Dd2 was bad, finally got omeprazole at 4 months.

At 6 months she started to sit up and things got massively better, reduced and stopped meds by 7 months.

Ds on ranitidine from around 8 weeks, and it made an amazing difference in a matter of days, though I've heard it can take longer to show effect. Really night and day - he was such a tense, uncomfortable, miserable little thing and within maybe 2 days he was happy, relaxed and easy to handle. Though it isn't a miracle cure for all babies from what I've read, but it's worth exploring with your gp if gaviscon isn't working. Gaviscon really worsened symptoms for Ds actually.

5mo now and will be on medication for another couple of months before being reviewed again. We'll see how things go with weaning, but the dark days of reflux seem a long, long time ago.

Hope you get sorted and dd feeling better soon.

Hope you

Thanks all, you have done a lovely job of making me feel better! I was just getting to despondent reading all the threads about people whose children were still suffering at age 2!

dd2 had reflux and we went down the route of cranial osteopathy for her rather than ranitidine which the paed was happy to prescribe. Took three sessions and she was sleeping through the night (from being a baby who couldn't lie on her back at all). This was at 9 weeks old. We did find our afterwards that the osteopath we had been recommended was world renowned though, and generally considered to be the best in Europe. Lucky us!

DD (17 months) has reflux. It was awful when she was tiny. We were fobbed off with infant gaviscon. Cried at GP at 6 months and got ranitidine - she was like a different kid! It's still there - she still needs her medicine (she's sick in her mouth rather than puking) but ever since she's been upright (pulling to stand and then walking) she's been loads better. I'm hoping we can stop the meds soon.
