Anyone got any experiences weaning off nipple shields?

My DS is 14 weeks and I've been using nipple shields since week 3 as he was quite little and struggled to feed without causing me horrendous pain!

But now I want to try and stop using them. I am worried about the pain again though!

Anyone have any experiences quitting nipple shields? How did it feel breastfeeding "bare" after using the shields?

I did it with DD. I just started each feed with them and took them off after a minute for a day just to take the edge off her hunger so she was calmer. This allowed her to concentrate on latching on properly.

DD was a bit older than your DD though.

I'm using them again with 11 week old DS and keep thinking I should wean him but he struggles to maintain a latch without them.

Thanks Pastaandcheese! Did it hurt when you fed with your bare nipple?
