Smelly gas and no poop

My 7 week old DS hadn't pooped in 3 days and has the smelliest gas. Before he was popping 4/5 times a day and he's always had bad gas but never this smelly. He's EBF so don't think he's constipated. Is this normal or should I get him checked out??

I'd say normal. My DD is currently on day 6 with no poo, and very smelly gas. I saw the health visitor this morning and she said EBF babies can go up to 2 weeks without pooing. She said it's also rare for an EBF baby to get constipated.

I ought to add DD is just over 6 weeks. Old.

Ds2 used to go about once a week.

Usually when his gas was getting more frequent and smelly it was a sign things were going to happening soon.

Poo day as it became known in out house was a stay at home day. Got a bit explosive

I've been told to give sugar water to DS Hmm will this help? Is it safe? I thought breastfed babies didn't need water Confused so confused

No don't give sugar water

You could try bicycling legs gently, a warm bath but mostly wait for the poonami

Remember that envelope neck popper vests can be taken off down over lower body, no need to smot up the baby's hair with poo!

I've tried massage and cycling his legs and I'm q happy to sit through his smelly farts and just wait for it to happen but DM is doing my head in. Making me feel like a bad mother every time he cries because she thinks he's constipated and crying in pain. Normally he's crying because I'm not holding him and calms down when I do pick him up. Grrrrr Confused
What can I tell her to back off? Why is sugar water bad?

Also at what point should I worry? As in how many days should I wait before seeing the GP?

My DD went a week with no poo this time, no one I spoke to - health visitor, lactation consultant, GP - was concerned. As long as there are wet nappies your baby is highly unlikely to be constipated. I'd only be concerned if your baby's tummy was noticeably hard/distended.

Have you tried the colon release massage? The lady that runs my baby massage class swears by it. She says if there is anything there it will shift it!

Babies only need breastmilk until around 6 months, don't give him sugar water. Breastmilk is about 90% water anyway and contains it's own natural sugars that he is able to digest.

Maybe take the baby to the GP if no poo in a week-10 days? I'd only take him if he has a hard tummy or is in pain though.

This happened with my ds. Pooed several times a day every day until he was about 10 weeks old but then he started missing days, with the smelliest farts. He was also in pain with it when he hadn't gone. I tried going dairy and soy free for a month which made no difference. This went on for a few weeks then when he was 16 weeks someone suggested taking him to an osteopath that deals with babies. He had 3 visits but even after the first visit he never missed a day again and he's now 20 weeks. He's so much happier too, cries a lot less. I now do the tummy massages I taught myself fr

Whoops!
I taught myself from YouTube videos every morning and evening and he gets a bath every other night. If he misses a bath I find he can often not poo till late evening the following and those days aren't fun for him (or me!) but generally he now goes at least twice, but can sometimes still be smelly. The osteopath said he was quite tight down his left hand side of his tummy and the night after the first treatment he woke up pooing in the middle of the night, and has done several times since! It's like he's newborn again sometimes but as he was so uncomfortable with it before, I'll take the middle of the night poos if it makes him happier

My lb did the same at around 5 weeks, he changed from a poo after every feed to no poo and lots of smelly farts. Hv said bf babies can go for up to two weeks without pooing and as long as they are not in distress and their poo is not hard that's fine. My lb is now three months old. He has the smelliest farts and only poo once a week. The poo is soft and actually smells much less than his farts! He is not distressed and he is growing well.
