Period returned at 4 months - EBF

As the title says - my period seems to have come back - DS is 4 months and a week and only breastfed - won't even take a bottle of breast milk. Is this normal - I thought it would be longer? Or am I just unlucky? Read somewhere that if baby is fed on demand average is 14.5 months! So v early! He's been feeding less in day as too distracted but increased night feelings so still feeding a lot!

Normal. Both DC I EBF and my period returned both times at 9 week PP.
I was a bit Hmm when every one else around me (NCT a d two friends) went 9 months to a year. Even the friend who stopped BF at 3 months and the NCT friend who didn't BF at all.

Don't worry it's normal.

Just unlucky/normal with my second EBF they returned at 6 weeks Sad with my 3rd I had the mirena coil fitted 3 weeks post partum as I couldn't stand the thought of dealing with an EBF and my mega heavy periods again as well as 3 older dc!

Thanks - that's good to know. Just thought I'd have another couple of months!

You're lucky you had that long. Mine returned at 5 weeks. Ebf and fed every 1.5-2hrs.

I'm not even sure if it was before 6 weeks, I just know my lochia finally stopped (had BIG babies) and then a week off and my friggen period happened! Not impressed at all.

14.5 months sounds wrong as an average! By then most babies aren't feeding very much at all so would be very worrying if your periods hadn't restarted.

I think mine came back before six months with one, just after with the other. Neither ever had a bottle.

I thought it sounded a long time as well! Sounds like I'm not that unlucky then!

With my eldest it was about 3 months I think. This time it was 7 weeks - both EBF, both very big and hungry babies, feeding pretty often.

My HV told me it's when they start going more than 3 hours between feeds. Never heard that from anyone else though?

I thought my periods returned when ds was 9 months, only lasted 2 days. Nothing since and ds is 1 next week.
Might just be a one off like mine?

12 months here. I also know people who got them from 6 weeks and people who took 22-24 months.

Big range of normal.

14 months sounds about right as an average to me - lots and lots of bf babies will still be feeding in the night at this point.

6/7 weeks both times for me. I thought it'd be one of the benefits of EBF but not to be.

There is a thread on ttc where bf mums are still waiting for their periods at 2-3 years… the body is so random!

I was told (and I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad!) that the fatter you are the quicker they are likely to return.
Seeing how fast mine came back and dd was ebf and still had night feeds until about 15 months old, this confirms I am obviously whale like HmmSad
