Personally, I'd buy it now , if you're sore at 3am it's a godsend!

Get it now. Or yesterday, if you can. Grin

Once you're sore it can take a while to recover so put it on if you suspect the start of a cluster feeding phase - and there will be a few of those early on! Best of luck, Lansinoh got me through all the times I wanted to give up and I'm sooo glad I stuck with it.

Get it now. Aim to use it as a prevention rather than a cure but if you get sore it really helps. I used it religiously for about 5 weeks before and after every feed and still had loads left. Good luck with it!

Get it now. If you don't use it all on your nipples it makes an excellent hand cream!

I got lots of little free samples in the (mostly full of crap) bounty or emmas diary, or whatever it was, bags. They were enough for the first night when I was still learning about the latch.

I would get some and actually I'd apply it daily for the last 2 weeks of pg as well.

Am going to go against the grain here and say don't worry till after. I got by with the little sachets that the midwives gave me as well as some breast milk which also does a good job. You only need a teeny bit otherwise you risk worsening the latch because the nipple is too slippery.

I do accept that Lansinoh is seen as the cure all of sore nipples and I'm not denying it is effective but sometimes I think if we concentrated on getting the latch correct to start with, it would prevent lots of problems.

PS : other nipple creams do exist, some women are allergic to lanolin. Smile

I don't really see the point of using it antenatally personally -

Yes, what does Lanisoh do antenatally? Confused

It soothes cracked or sore nipples - so unless they are cracked and sore before baby has arrived I don't see what using it achieves until just before the first few feeds (actually I would now use it just before the first feed, knowing what I know now :) and nipple shields :) and my latch was finnnnnnnnnnne... I just had gobbley ferocious pirhanha babies :) (some of us just do!)

Use it at every feed to prevent dryness and associated soreness. Every feed from birth until you forget and it doesn't matter.

You wouldn't wait to put suncream on until you were going pink...

It's also great for chapped lips/heels/elbows too Grin

Be nice to your midwife. She can probably get you enough free samples to get by.

Not everyone needs it, but you want to be sure you have some to hand in case you do need it.

Another vote for 'get it in now'.

By the way, it really soothes my sore hands in the winter. So, on the off chance you don't need it for your nipples, it may yet come in handy. Smile

I didn't see a single free sample. And ended up giving the woman in the next bed some (from my labour bag) in the middle of both of our first nights as she was crying in pain from feeding.

I used kamillosan which smells lovely and can be used as nappy rash cream as well so won't be wasted if you find (like me) that you are lucky and don't actually get sore nipples after the first few days!

I used it from the first feed religiously for about two weeks. It was brilliant and now I don't need it anymore. It definitely helped stop my nipples getting sore.

Tell your MW you are planning to BF and ask her to write you a prescription for it. I didn't realise it was available on prescription until after I had already bought some.

Get it now - but (if you don't get a prescription) Dermamum is cheaper and I found it better. From Boots and Sainsburys. Lansinoh breastpads are the best though, worth the extra quids!

I didn't use any nipple creams at all. I'm in NL and was told by all the HCP to squeeze out a little bit of milk after each feed, smear it on the nipples and leave it to dry. Apparently this stops the skin drying out, aids healing, is anti-bacterial, and means the baby doesn't eat the cream. I was also told not to put soap on my nipples when I showered, just to use water, as the soap would also have a drying effect. It seemed to work.

Get it now! It's also on offer at Ocado at the mo. :) You'll more than likely need it at some point and it's really handy to have ready to go. It makes quite a nice lip gloss / balm too should you have any left over or need a slick of something in hospital / when out and about :)

You don't have to wash Lansinoh off - that's one of the reasons it's the most recommended.

Disclaimer: unless your child proves to have a contact allergy to lanolin Hmm
