Advice needed about EBM and actually expressing!!

After many exhausting days of trying different teats for a breast fed ds I have found success with playtex.:o However, he prefers EBM and I am really stuggling to express using the Avent hand pump.:( Can anybody advise regarding electric pumps, don't want to pay lots for one if it isn't going to work either and wondered if anyone had hired one from somewhere to try it out?? Would buy one second hand as well!!Wink
If not, has anyone found formula which is similar, ds does not like SMA we have found!!

I couldn't use the hand pump that I got and have tried two pumps both Medela - the mini electric and now the swing. To be honest I think hiring works out more expensive than just buying one. I'd look on ebay and reckon you'll be able to pick up a 2nd hand one for a song. The medela is good but quite noisy and I think there are quiter models about.
Can't help with the formula question I'm afraid as my son has been quite happy with SMA when booby juice hasn't been available. Good luck!

hey,

I got mine from ebay it cost £25 incl postage new, (it's not a medela but works just as good for me and I didn't want to spend much) anyhow it'd v effective and quick. hand pumps - pah! personally using the tommee tippe one I got 1 oz out with Joey on the other size having a good suckle and as I leak that it wasn't worth it!

as for formula we've tried him with aptimal, sma cow & gate every time he guzzles approx 1/2 oz and then propmtly sicks it all back up again but wil happily go on the boob/have EBM. do u leak much? I've also found during the day I can normally get a good 3/4 oz out by collecting leakage, might take you a day or so but could be worht it for u.

I liked my medela mini electric pump - also couldn't get anything with hand pump. Dd didn't question Hipp Organic formula when I gave it to her - whether that was because it is similar to breast milk, or whether she is just a pig and anything will do I'm not sure!

Just to let you know I have managed to buy a medela mini electric breast pump off E bay for £17.00 all in, top tip!! Thanks!! :o
Hoping this will prevent the purchase of any more formula but have three kinds already, thinking of reviewing them via my son!! Wink
