Infant feeding

Seriously engorged....might drown 3 day old in milk at this rate!

on day 3 and am really suffering today. Breasts are huge, hard, lumpy & hot....oh, and painful from breast to armpit. I BF first daughter but never encountered this.

Feeding got off to slow start as baby wasn't really interested for first 24 hours. I have since been feeding on demand which has varied from cluster feeding to breaks of 3 hours. No problem with latch as far as I'm aware.

I feel like I have so much milk in me ( it's literally running out of me at times!) that little one is overwhelmed at each feed and not emptying the breast so am also now concerned about chances of developing mastitis, swell as her not reaching the 'good stuff' and finding it hard to fit her tiny little mouth around my massive boobs!

Worried about expressing as surely this will lead to more over production but as I sit here with throbbing boobs I am keen for any advice to sooth this.

I was like this with my DS and I found hand expressing a bit at the start of a feed made my breasts less engorged and helped with his latch. My supply did settle down then in a few days.

Try a warm shower to release some 'naturally' Mine were like this a little in the beginning, it helped until they settled down

Thank you for all the good advice. Gladly things have settled down today and I'm feeling much better.
