DD is nearly 7 months, happily ating lots of food three times a day, but she's drinking me dry! I think it's thirst because she'll bring back cottage cheese as I call it after some of the bottles...

She drinks just EBM as would never take the breast, so bottles/cups etc won't affect her... she drinks 1-1.5 litres of EBM a day, she's about 9th centile, is it ok to give her boiled cooled water? And how much should I give her?!

I think from 6mths is fine, although not essential.

I started offering water to dd at the same time she weaned. - gave it to her in a cup at mealtimes.

Also, how mcu does she actually need nutrition-wise? (As I said she's 9th centile) because I was thinking that soon I'll have to cut down a little, and was wonder, whether it would be ok swapping between EBM and cows milk (as long as she gets the basic nutrional needs covered by EBM)...I'm not bothered about the allergy because I forgot about it and have added it to lots of her mashed veg so too late now anyway!

I wouldn't give cows milk yet as a drink, its fine in cooking from 6mths, but she needs the nutritiousness of milk designed for babies now, not cows milk.

I offer water at meal times and my DS takes just a few sips. He saves big drinks for his milk feeds. He's 8 months BTW.

I cant see why boiled water would be a problem to a 7 month old who is already on solids. Give it a try. There is nothing in it that can hurt her and if she is getting enough milk, well there is no problem.

Nowadays, cows milk isnt given until 12 months I notice, and formula is given up to that age. Many years ago it was introduced at 6 months so dont agonize about the bits you put in veg.

Fastasleep, it is recommended that they drink some water once they start solids. I think at that age you replace ounces of milk with ounces of solids, so that by one year of age their total milk intake is one pint. 1.5 litres sounds like a lot of milk to me! You must be exhausted trying to keep up with that! (Is that why you're called fastasleep?Grin)

Nah I was a sleepy person once upon a time... not anymore though! Grin Kids have upped my metabolic rate lol...

She's not fat though lol but still drinking 1.5 lites of milk..grrr... she's happily sucked down 600ml of water today, and is still drinking the usual amount of milk and eating three meals..GRR!! Lol!
