7 month old won't drink formula

I would like to stop breastfeeding my 7 month old during the day (at the moment she has 2 at about 11.30am and 3pm as well as morning and evening). She takes a cup with water very well and in fact she loves it and uses it quite independently. The trouble is when i put formula in the cup she doesn't want to go anywhere near it. She has never taken a bottle and i find it v hard to express any bm. does anyone have any ideas?

you could just not give her formula. she is probably old enough get buy during the day with just water.

mmm not sure. I am not feeding dd meat (will introduce fish soon) as this is also my diet. So i'm a bit worried that without so much milk her iron intake will be quite low.

Have you tried more than one formula? It may be that she would refuse one but take another.

If you are worried about her iron intake you can get drops from the HV.
You could also mix fomula milk into her foods-e.g. mash potato. She doesn't have to drink it.

I think my dd didn't have milk in the day at 7 months old (her choice)- she just had water too.

My DS was the same. He did eventually agree to Hipp Organic, but didn't like Aptimil at all. I mixed up baby rice and other weaning foods with formula (or ebm) and got quite a lot down him that way.

It did take me a good week before my 6 months old started taking the bottle of formula milk. I waited until she was very very hungry and fed her with the HIPP ORGANIC too... It was a battle for the only 2 bottles I was giving her each day (lunch & 4pm) but she was drinking a little bit more each day...(it was hard for me too but I didn't gave up!) and she is finally taking it, not making funny faces anymore... so don't give up and my baby do enjoy the water too. But I wouldnt recommend the milk in the cup. Milk in a bottle and water in a cup!!!! And try the bottle of milk when she is sitting for her meals. Most of all, do not give up, your baby do need the milk and this is what you have to remember!!!!

Would it be less trouble to carry on breastfeeding when you can, and just water when you can't?

4 feeds is pretty good for a 7 month old.

i had the same problem and think it was coz when i was trying to give formula she could smell my milk and obviously prefered that! i used cow and gate next steps it says from 9 months but it was the only thing she would drink and i had to get someone else to give her the bottle until she got used to it it took about 3 days of other people feeding her to solve the problem
