But I have no idea how to start. Is there an idiots guide somewhere?

I am not an expert at all but I think the best advice is just to go for it! Blogger is really simple to use. I did see a dummies guide to blogging in the library but was too mad a moment to actually take it out. Maybe your library has a copy?

Hi Fraktal,

We've got a little guide called How to Start a Blog which might come in handy... There are step-by-step instructions available on WordPress or Blogger too once you decide you want to create a blog. And if you want to run any questions by us, email [email protected] and we'll see what we can do. Good luck!

Hi! Yes- would echo the 'go for it' advice. Wordpress is good and easy to get going. Decide if you want anonymity or not and what kind of a readership you'd like also.

You also need to be quite mercenary about pushing your blog if you'd like to be writing for an audience. Twitter and Facebook are good for this - and because mine is educational, I use forums like the TES forum as well - although the Student Room kicked me out for reasons I can only guess at!

If you want to look me up, I'm here: www.crapteacher.wordpress.com/

or find me on Twitter (@crapteacher) and ask me some more questions!

What do you want to blog about? Are you going for a niche or general musings?

Thanks all for the advice. I'll look up that guide, Elen!

I was thinking of putting down my musings about language, connections between languages, how we use them etc so possibly a bit niche, but generally interesting and accessible? It's inspired by my students actually!

I don't really want to do daily minutiae but I suspect there will be some crossover.
