Someone explain pages on FB to me before I throw the PC out of the window

Please.

I have registered as MmeLindor SaltandCaramel but Flamingo said that a page is better than being registered normally on FB.

When I say that I want a page, then it turns me into SaltandCaramel

But I don't see all the stuff I want to see on SaltandCaramel.

I can see who I like but don't see their blog posts, and on MmeLindor SaltandCaramel I can see this.

Can anyone explain this to me.

Watching as I feel I need a FB page, but am a FB novice. May be better off posting in geeky stuff?

I'm just having a look now. What are you registering yourself as, e.g. Brand?

What do you mean it turns you into SaltandCarmel?

When I create a page for a client, I do it through my personal profile (you actually are breaking their TOS if you make a new 'person' for a non-person or have more than one profile). So I create a page with the name I want, select it's type, usually business for my clients, and then I can either use FB as me or as the page.

You get less privacy restrictions with a page, but other than that if you select to use FB as that page, you can do pretty much what you can do as yourself.

Did that help at all?

Is it this:

  • individuals (mme lindor) have friends
  • pages have 'likes'
  • individuals can like a page (and follow its updates) and...
  • pages can like other pages (and follow their updates) but...
  • pages can't like/friend individuals

so if your blogger friends are individuals then when you're logged in as a page, you won't see their updates. If they have pages, you can.

But you should be able to swap between being a page and an individual. If you click on your name in the top right corner (or it could be settings or something) you should see option to "use Facebook as page".

Does that help?

ah, that all helps.

Yes, is that I cannot see the individuals on my page, but just other pages - that was what was confusing me.

So to see everyone, I have to switch between page and individual

Thanks all

Hi MmeLindor - sorry for not seeing this sooner!

Yes, you do need to switch, and it's preferable to, really, because the ppl you're 'friends' with on your personal account you share most things with, and vice versa. Page following is a much more 'private' thing. That is the crappest explanation I've ever made about something! Sorry! Grin

It's not hard to swap - I forget sometimes, though, which is annoying!

I can't find you as a page Mme but can see salt and caramel as a person...have you not switched over yet? I've just started my own page - adventures of a first time mum - not really sure what I'm doing with it though!

Ok, I have a page, now what?! How do I RSS my blog to FB?

OMG I'm meant to have a fb page too?

Ok I get you create a fb page through your
Personal fb account, but if I don't want
People to connect to my personnel profile through my page.

Is that possible to keep the 2 separate?

Butterfly
Don't tell anyone but I have a separate blog FB account. I don't really advertise my blog on personal FB account.

You can have a fb page without having a personal fb account.

Mme - oh ok that's what I need to do then

Dilly - I tried to create a page on it's own but fb stated that I must have a profile first. Where am I going wrong?

Mme Lindor - just discovered something on FB pages! In the page, click on 'edit page' and then choose 'your settings' from the menu on the left hand page.

From there you can check a box that says 'Always comment and post on your page as Salt and Caramel even when using Facebook as MmeLindor.'

HTH Smile

Has pleased me no end to find that out!
