Bereavement

Ds's friend

Ailsa · 02/09/2004 22:57

My ds started junior school today only to be told during his year group assembly that one of his best friends died last week. His friend was diagnosed with cancer while they were in reception, so ds was well aware that his friend was 'poorly'. DS always looked forward to the day when his friend would be able to come back to school and play with him and the others.

It broke my heart when ds asked "How can I go to play at 'friends' house now he's dead?"

Oh, Ailsa, how dreadful.

You will be having some serious and sad conversations for a while. Hope DS can come to terms with it.

Thanks everyone for your wishes, ds is coping really well, obviously he'll still mention his friend for a while. We had a letter from school yesterday which said that it was Neuroblastoma.

Just makes me so glad to have 3 lovely healthy children, to appreciate them more and make sure I tell them everyday that I love them, even when they've been told off.
