Bereavement

Normal procedure, or just our hospital?

Had a scan last week at 11+5 to find empty sac and no fetal pole. We were away from home so couldn't do anything and then it was the BH weekend.

Monday night I woke up at midnight with really bad period-type pains and a lot of bleeding so went straight to A&E. As I walked into the triage room blood rushed down both legs. The nurse went and got me something to sit on but I had to actually ask for something to wipe my legs with.

Taken to another room for an internal and bloods and goodness knows what. After the internal there was obviously even more mess and all they did was change the paper pads I was lying on. Nobody attempted to clean me or give me anything to clean myself with. I asked if they had bigger STs because the maxi night-time ones I was using were soaking through in minutes, but all they had was nappies! Once on the ward I cleaned myself up as best I could in the toilet but there was even blood on my heels. It really wasn't very pleasant. No wonder elderly patients get so upset, when you are just left in your own muck. There's just no dignity at all.

Is this just our hospital or is this new policy?

I would have thought if there was a maternity ward they could have got bigger pads from there - if not anywhere else. Sounds like just bad patient care rather than a policy.

Sorry you had to go through this.
