6 yo asserting himself– how to handle?

Hello, your views would be appreciated. My friend?s 6 yo has suddenly decided that he doesn?t want to go to his gym class anymore and is refusing to go. She suspects it is because gym is ?too girly?. How would you handle this sort of thing? Ignore it and carry on going to the class? Find another more suitably ?manly? activity? He?s refusing to even go into the building at the moment and is doing a sit down strike/strop ? not fun for anyone concerned. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Both of mine started refusing to go around that age - it was too boring ( lots of waiting around to take turns)
