How much milk should a 4 1/2 month old have in a feed?

Hi All

I have a baby who is exclusivly breast-fed and he is due to go into the nursery tomorrow . I have made sure he is able to take a bottle of expressed milk (which he does) and i have figured out the nursery will be doing 3 of his feeds during the day (i'll give them 4 bottles just in case)

My problem is, how much should he have in a feed? Obviously because he is breastfed i never know exactly how much he takes. I was thinking of expressing 4oz (120ml)per bottle.

Is this enough per feed for a baby of his age (4 and half months?)

Lu xx

you might find he is actually getting about 150-200mls per feed. how often do you bf a day? a baby of that age typically has about 800-1000mls a day. could vary a lot. how long will he be at the nursery for? are you not to far away that you could go if he has gulped the lot?

my ds at that age was having 7 oz bottles wouldnt hurt to make up 5 bottles of 6 and if they need extra its there best to have too much then not enough

also as a comfort may want to feed more also

Yes, i work just next door so i can pop in if he has ran out.

I would say he breast feeds about 6 or 7 times a day and twice in the night. Morning and bed time, he feeds a lot! Usually draining both boobies.

Im using those Tommie Tipee bottles designed to be like the boobie. They only take 125ml!
