Anyone else have a licker?

My dearest daughter (2.5 years old) has gotten into the habit of shouting lick lick loudly and then wildly licking absolutely everything and anything! I find it quite disgusting and when she tries to lick me I put her away from me and tell I don't like it. She'll stop after a while but then starts up again.

Please someone tell me this is a toddler thing and will pass soon or if you have some great ideas to keep her from it please say.

Imagine my embarrasment standing in a shop and discovering that she's licking shopwindows and merchandise =)

ds does this - but mostly to me and sometimes to random objects. Luckily not to other people.

Like your dd, he does it for a while and then it dies down, and then he starts again.

The gaps in between seem to be getting quite a bit longer though (now 2.11).

Have to agree though, it is a bit unpleasant.

My dd did the licking the shopwindows and trolleys and things at a similar age. Found it quite disgusting. She didn't do the shouting and licking me though.

They like to pretend to be dogs or cats, I have found. Tell her to "sit" and she'll be fine.

rofl - dd did this as a baby - around the 6 mth mark. Mostly licked us. She co-slep and I swear my cheeks were dry from night time licking by the morning

the bad news?
ds2 is 3.5 and still wildly orally fixated, except now instead of licking it's spitting, utterly utterly gross.
he also sticks everything in his mouth - yesterday he went a bit quiet, i looked over and he's got a lego brick (duplo) stuck in his gob.

Hmm, guess she might just be a very oral child. I suppose I should be thankful for getting the warning cries of lick lick though =)

DS 2.5 does lot's of licking, but only when he is being a dog (which is far too often). Have never had to deal with licking of random objects! It's usually my face. I refuse when he asks me to lick him, though

Ds2 licked everything in sight from 3 until he was 4.5 - even getting his tongue stuck to a freezer in Iceland didn't stop him. He seems to have grown out of it now (nearly 5) but he does still have the odd lick of the counter in the butcher's for some reason. Horrible while it lasts but they do grow out of it.

my ds used to lick me and nothing else but they get over it eventually. I took it as a compliment!
