Eye Q

Hi. I'm sure I posted this already, but for the life of me I can't find it, so I'll have to do it again. Has anyone used Eye Q capsules or liquid? My DS is a wonderful, happy, kind lad, but his concentration is awful! I've heard good reports about it, but I would like to know if any of you had tried it? Thanks

I got vanilla liquid for my DS but he hates the taste we tried to put it in milk or yoghurt but it separates.

We have to bribe him with a tiny bit of shoelace afterwards to take the taste away.

I found out that eskimo oil is better according to gloworm, but as the eyeq costs £10 I have told him he has to finish it first.

My DS is 9 years and has dyspraxia

marmalade the eskimo one comes in lemon or tutti-frutti flavour (no sugar/colours/sweetners added). the liquid is better than the capsules but some people find the capsules more convenient.
there seem to be a lot of stories about childrens behaviour getting worse on eyeQ, but so far I havent heard any bad reports about eskimo.

I give EyeQ to my 3 yr old who is not a naughty girl but has problems with her concentration span. I give her the citrus liquid ("shrek" juice in our house - that way she is happy to drink the stuff). We have noticed a definite improvement and have had positive comments from her playgroup leaders who didn?t know we had strarted giving her it. I am a firm believer.

We also cut down on all foods with additives, changed her squash over to Rocks organic, avoid all artificial sweeteners etc. etc, no "bad" snacks, only fruit between meals and she now has "proper" home cooked dinners at a regular time - used to be a bit haphazard and had lapsed into Tesco readymeals several times a week but have gone back on the straight and narrow. When we have a "bad day" now and again - maybe a friends party or grannie "spoiling" her (grrrr), we really notice the difference within an hour. I think if you want to add supplements you need to keep a close eye on the overall diet as well - no good giving EyeQ and then allowing them to eat junk. DH thinks it is just the change in diet but I truly believe it is both things that help.

If I did it again, I would try a strict label watching approach to diet first, (it is amazing what food we found to have nasties lurking - even margerine) make sure they were getting enough sleep and if no real improvement after two weeks, then go down the supplement route - as it is expensive and might not be necessary. Good Luck.

Stripymouse - sounds like my 5 year old is like your child. I'm using EyeQ on the recommendation of Grandma (who is also paying for it, fortunately). My daughter is seriously active but I am told not hyperactive. If there's a dividing line she's sitting on it..

I don't know if its doing any good. I too have cut out additives. We now go pretty much organic for fruit and veg. Its revolting how many additives are in food 'especially for kids'.

Luckily we've been doing it for so long now she's used to it and doesn't kick up too much.

I do have a question though. How do you get a 5 year old to eat more? She eats like a bird but is super active and is built like a twiglet (4 feet tall). What she eats is healthy but the quantity is almost non existant.

I echo what Stripymouse says - we tried EyeQ with ds1 who is very high energy - it certainly seemed to calm him down, but he didn't like it much & then I kept forgetting to give it to him!
For the last few weeks I've been trying to eliminate processed foods (largely...) - I've started buying butter instead of marge, making cakes instead of buying them & cooking proper home made dinners (then dh & I eat the same later on, which makes life a lot easier than it was). DS1 has definitely become calmer & more generally more amenable - he even asked for "some of your nice soup" on Saturday - ...DH & I both fell on the floor as this is the boy who is generally resistant to anything like this & often nagging for sweets etc.
As an extra bonus my food bills have also decreased by about 20% a week

ds (6) takes it and has done for about 6 months. We noticed a distinct decline in his temper and general behaviour when we got more relaxed about giving it to him and he wasn't finishing the juice with it in. He has some liquid in juice with breakfast and capsules with dinner.

My dd went haywire on EyeQ. It really affected her and we tried it 3 separate times to be sure. Even to the point that it affected her sleep. Other people have really good stories to tell as well!

Hi all. Thanks for your input so far. Gloworm, I have taken your recommendation and ordered some Eskimo oil for kids instead, as the scare stories about Eye Q put me off. I would hate anything to have an adverse effect on DS as he is such a sweet natured lad, and very kind and loving and even tempered. It's just that his concentration span is terrible sometimes. I'll keep you posted on how it goes with the oil.

Same here blossomhill, there was quite a big improvement in concentration with dd1 for a few days, then she went haywire, couldn't keep still, couldn't concentrate at all, wouldn't go to sleep. She only took it for about 2 weeks, but it took a couple of months for her to go back to normal! However, I know some people swear by it!

Really Caroline5! Now that is interesting! Have you tried any alternative? I want to but am a bit scared as dd reacted so badly before. Nightmare

No, I don't dare! She seems to have improved a lot in concentration recently anyway, not sure why, and is sleeping much better. I think I'll leave well alone! Did you try the eskimo stuff?
