how early should the 2 year check up be?

got a letter today to say HV is coming over next wednesday to do dd's 2 year development check.

she is 14 months old.

tried calling to say can we leave it a bit, or even not bother, can't get through.

any ideas? cock up? or just very very early?

all her little friends had 8-12 month check ups, but she was missed (we're a different surgery but same health authority). i never followed that up as i wasn't particularly bothered to have it.

shall i just wait for HV to turn up and do whatever she does? or shall we go out for the afternoon?

lucky you, i am still waiting on dd's development check at 2, well i know she is only two weeks into her second year but i asked my speech therapist when i would get her 2yr dev check as i have some concerns. Fuck me, she said that they dont automatically get one!!!!!!!

we got totally mixed messages from our GP surgery. We were told originally 8 weeks, 8 months and 18 months, then at 18 months old DD#1 didn't get a check so I called them and was told it was at 2yr now, so at 2yr nothing happened either and I was then told it was now at 2yr 3mths old - when it did eventually happen. I guess it is up to you really. I would have them come if you have any concerns or questions. Otherwise it is probably just routine box ticking for them and you. Does seem a little strange getting the 2 yr check done quite this early though. How on earth can the realistically decide if development at 2yrs is normal if they see them so early.

well if you don't feel any check is necessary, then you don't need to have it, but it's polite to let the HV know, so she doesn't waste time coming out to your place.

tried to call again, just rings off. it's not even my normal HV and the letter is from a different surgery. maybe they've merged HVs or something. i sense it's a cock up. might pop into that surgery later. thanks guys.

Think it's way too early to do a 2 year check and wouldn't make sense. I expect it's a mistake.

What 2 year check? My DD had her 8 month check at 10 months and hasn't seen an HV since. They did send her a b'day card (with the wrong name) but don't seem to want to see her.

Not much point doing it unless it is around 2 years mark.
Surely the point is to look for developmental delay and at 14 months your LO will score a false low score.
I would ask if it could be done closer to her 2nd b/day.

We don't have a development check any more here now. I will get an invite to a party for the kids at the clinic sometime Sept/Oct/Nov, and if i want to go i can discuss any concerns there.....
