Is it a tooth?

On Fri we noticed our DD (9mo) has what looks like a small cut where her front right tooth would be...She definitly has all the symptons of teething and we've been waiting for her first one to appear, thing is it doesn't really look any different today than it did on Fri, i.e theres no sign of any tooth! It is hard to get a look as you can imagine but I was just wondering how long does a tooth take to push through once the gum has broken??

DS2 had a silvery line on his gums for months, he had his first 2 teeth 1 week before he turned 9 mths

That's what its like, a sort of grey silvery mark that looks like a little hole in the skin. So you think it could take months to push right through? It doesn't seem to bother her too much, she's been more restless at night but there doesn't seem to be lots of screaming or anything.

They can come from nowhere - ie pink smooth gum one day, tooth the next, or they can hover beneath the surface for aaaages. DS's last tooth you could literally see it just below the skin for about 4 weeks before it broke through. As BurstingBug says it looked like a silver line.

It might be that your DD has hit her gum on something and the tooth beneath the surface has caused the skin to break. DS did that once and it bled and made a little cut, but then healed over without the tooth coming through. A few weeks later the tooth pushed up enough to come through again.

If the tooth is coming through you can feel it when they bite down on your finger - it will feel like a little something sharp and hard in the middle of the squishy gum.

It could take a while. I kept saying 'its going to be soon', 'its going to be here next week', but no, it was 3 or 4 months! We're waiting on the next 2 now, we can 'see' them, they just need to cut through.
He's been really good though, hardly any problems, where as DS1 gave us hell teething

When I run my finger along her gum its sharp like a little pin prick I guess that could be it but then like you say it could just be shes cut her gum....Guess we'll just have to wait and see!

My DS had exactly that - the tooth appeared a few days later. He's 10 months and still only has two. I tried to check his gums yesterday and the little bugger bit me and drew blood!
