crazy moro reflex - does it mean a nervous disposition?

I'm concerned about ds who is 12 weeks old as he often seems so petrified, especially on the changing mat, he does the moro/startle thing over and over again with barely a gap in between, drawing in his breath every time. What is he scared of? I'm not that bad! I've made sure there isn't a bright light in his face or anything. Do you reckon he could just be a nervy baby? How can I reassure him? I know many babies don't grow out of this reflex for quite a while but it just seems so pronounced, I couldn't possibly count how many times a day he does it.

Don't know, parsnip, but don't want you to feel ignored. My baby has a crazy hand fluffing thing that is causing him to scratch up his forehead into ribbons if not in mittens. I can't figure it out either. I imagine it is just a symptom of a ds' developing nervous system and he will just grow out of it, I think anyway.

Hope someone will come along soon for you.

Is he a touchy baby, re The Baby Whisperer?
