Help - Back arching 8 month baby

My ds has in the past couple of weeks taken to wildly arching his back. He does it very suddenly when I pick him up, several times in succession and usually starts crying and seems very angry. He also does it when I am dressing him, when he is in his high chair, and when I am lifting him into his cot. I dont know whether to bother the doctor as one minute he is fine, but the next arching away and beside himself about something. Can anyone tell me - is this normal? Am I getting stressed about a very common phase all babies go through? He does it so violently that is is really distressing me, and I hate not knowing if there is some underlying cause for it..that he might be in pain? Any advice would be really appreciated.

back arching can be a sign of reflux but it would have most probably been apparent much earlier ... i think that at 8 months they are getting quite mobile and twisting is usual. Speak to your HV or GP just to put your mind at rest.

Thanks for that, I think I prob should have a chat with HV or I will not stop stressing about it

Is he not just showing his displeasure? I thought all babies above a certain age did this, to wriggle out of your grasp while you try and change nappy or feed or put in carseat/buggy/highchair etc. Mine was an olympic standard back archer.

both of mine did this at about this age...if they were frustrated or cross. Early form of tantrum i thought...

My DS did it too for a month or so at about 9 months. Usually when I was moving him somewhere he didn't want to be. It was especially when I went to lie him down to change his nappy, and when I lifted him out of the bath, as he loves the bath and hates having to leave... Hope it passes soon for your DS too .
