BOARD GAMES ideas for 2.5 AND nearly 5 yo????

hi, i'm trying to make an effort to play more WITH my dds, aged 2.5 and nearly 5.

also, i'm keen for dd2 in particular to become less of a tv junkie

dd2 is quite advanced, developmentally, but its still hard to find games she can play with her older sis. they play role play games, lego etc together, but would like to find some quiet, non gimicky/ non commercial board games to enjoy together.

any ideas? we have orchard shopping and spotty dog game. these are prob the only 2 we have that they can both play.

Tumbling monkeys. not a board game but good for these ages. Also Hooked (fishing game). Buckaroo.

Happy families and Donkey (if the 2 year old is helped)

I know none of these are board games, but my dds like them.

What about pop up pirate or similar, this teaches the little one to share and take turns.

My 3 - 5, 3 and 2 can play picture dominoes and lotto together. With a bit of guidance the little one can join the other 2 in cranium hullabaloo.

Blimey, my nearly two year old's idea of a playing a board game is to pick up selected counters and run away cackling

Another vote for Snakes & Ladders (though DS 2.5 gets bored halfway through) and Hullabaloo (which they play loads).

We also have a game GoodNight Moon (based on the book) which is a matching game, has 6 different sets of rules for different ages. DD (5.11) enjoys this.

If she knows her colours we also have Candyland.

Though those last two games might only by US ones.......

The good thing about Tumbling Monkeys is that the older child can play to get as few monkeys as possible (the proper way) and the younger one can play to get as many monkeys as possible, so both end up happy.

Build a Beetle from Woolies is fab and suitable for young kids - very simple rules and each game only lasts a few minutes. However my DD does insist on playing it over and over again ;)

There are two American Board games that are brillaint if you can get ahold of them.

Candyland (my daughter loves this)
High Ho Cherrio
