fron breast to bottle...

maybe a silly question -

I feed my 5 and half month old 16lbs baby 6 times a day. I have recently changed her 1pm and 6pm onto bottles 7floz. I want to swap all meals apart from the 7am and just before bedtime to bottles. Is it as simple as just swapping all breast feeds with a 7floz bottle?

Thank you in advance

I'm no expert on this, but a couple of things I would watch out for are:

  1. you would need to drop one breast feed at a time (say, every few days) to make sure that you didn't end up with mammoth sore breasts as your supply adjusts; and

  1. if you were only doing two breastfeeds a day you might find that this affects your supply. I know someone who tried this when she went back to work and within about a week was struggling to give her baby enough milk at bedtime to see her through the night. Equally, there are people who can sustain feeding on just two feeds a day. It varies very much from one woman to the next.

Hth, and if not, at least you're back on active threads!

I cut one at a time, but then just cut all day time feeds and kept night time ones. Very sore boobs for a few days, but they adjusted. I found when i did it one at a time, i'd just think 'sod it' and breastfeed DS because it was easier! I stopped b/feeding totally at New Year, and had a day or two of sore boobs, but they're fine now.
