Nightmare toddler

My little boy is now 19 months old, and never seems to be happy!

He naps once during the day and goes to bed at 7.30pm at night, I have just taken his bottle off him, this was the only way he would ever go to sleep, but now iv managed to put him to bed without, he will grumble for 5 minutes max and then fall asleep.

But recently he has been waking up at around 1am screaming the house down, he will literally throw himself around his cot banging his head, and screaming, so I am having to get him up, we will go downstairs but he is still narky because obviously he is tired, but I cant get him to fall asleep anywhere other than his bed, so we stay up for hours till he allows me to rock him without a fight then I have to hold him till hes had enough sleep.

It is driving me insane! I have a time limit on how long I can take him out for because if he doesnt have a nap in bed he is literally the crankiest toddler ever and just screams till he gets to his bed.

I try and have calm time before naps, but he just cant sit still at all, he cant sit still for longer than 2 minutes, the only thing that stops him is back tickles, but after a couple of minutes he turns it into a tickle game.

So if he isnt full of energy screamimg with all the excitement, hes screaming because hes over tired. And im so much more stressed thinking about my poor neighbours, and how theyll think im a bad parent.

Does anyone else have similar issues?

Just dont know what to do anymore... if I could build a time machine and go back and buy a detached house and give him a dummy as a baby I would!

Poor you. I advise that you stop taking him out of his room when he wakes up at 1.00am.

He's probably having some kind of bad dream...or an awareness of being alone which he never had before.

Change it up by taking him out of his cot, giving him a cuddle and putting him back. Don't rock him..hug him for five minutes, then put him down.

He might kick off again...so you lean in and pat him. If he really freaks out, take him out for a shorter cuddle and then put him back.

Keep the lights off or dim.

Repeat.

I found this age MUCH more stressful than the baby years...toddlers are bloody awful really....cute and lovely but so mean! Grin
