3yr old always ill, anyone else?

My almost 3 year old seems to be constantly poorly. He's had a throat infection, followed by a cold at least 5 times in the last 10 months, it's like he gets over one thing and catches the next. He's not at nursery yet but due to start in January and the illnesses are only going to get worse as he adjusts to being around so many different germs.

Each time he gets poorly his temperature goes up to 40, we always end up in hospital for one reason or another and then have to spend the next week/fortnight recovering before we can get back to doing nice things. Within 3 days he's back to square one again with another illness.

I know that little ones get poorly but this just seems so extreme, not just the frequency but the hospital visits. The drs are very sketchy over what I do, I ask them if there is anything I should be doing differently but they say no. They don't even think vitamins are necessary because I offer him a varied diet and he's not small for his age. They say we're 'unlucky'.

Is this just bad luck? Do other people go through this too? It's so bad that it's impacting on the baby, I barely have time to work out how to wean him. The lack of sleep and being unable to go anywhere/do anything because of it is suffocating and I really feel like I'm struggling. DS misses out on everything, it's awful for him.

Watching with interest. My DD, 3.1 seems to get ill much more than average too. Not hospital level though thankfully - poor you and your boy Sad. DD was premature (34 wkr) so I always presumed that was why.

I started her on a multivit and an extra highish dose of Vitamin D3 a few weeks ago. It does seem to have made a difference - she still gets the bugs but they affect her a lot less. Could be coincidence, but worth a try? you can't get much D from diet.
