6 month old not rolling

My baby is six months old, and shows no interest in rolling. All the books say she should be by now, and all the babies in my group who are younger than her are rolling all over the place. Should I be worried?

throw the books out and ignore the other mums! neither of mine rolled until they were 11 months! they sat up and were happy sitting.....don;t worry about it at all...each baby develops at their own pace..

No .

DD rolled at about 11.5 months.

She is a bottom shuffler type mover and didnt see any point in rolling before then.

miss m- i posted today about my 6 month old not sitting! please don't worry, she probably does lots of things others worry that theirs don't.

Dd is 8mths old. She's probably only rolled over twice in her entire life. She's just not interested in it at all. Ds1 OTOH was one of those babies who rolled everywhere.

IME some babies want to roll and keep at it until they can. Others just don't care enough to want to do it.

dd rolled everywhere from about 4 months old - we had a few occasions when we couldn't find her because she rolled so fast

ds on the hand never rolled, except onto his tummy.

All babies are different - and they don't follow any baby books!

Some just don't none of my three learnt to roll at all, until they were over a year old, by which time it was redundant, really. Be warned, though, babies who are late to roll and don't like spending time on their fronts may be late to crawl, as well my three were all bottom-shufflers, but none was mobile at all until around their first birthday, nor could they get themselves into a sitting position until around that age.

Unless there's evidence of low muscle tone or she's not meeting other milestones, don't worry. You might consider checking out when you/your dh did these things, as age of crawling/walking etc is highly heritable. Just develop an ear-brain bypass system for all the proud mums and little old ladies who will comment on your child's slow development...

My DS is 17 months old. Walked at 16 months, crawled at 16.5 months (!) and I think rolled after 12 months. I'd enjoy it frankly - much better if they move later (unless of course you are worried about muscle tone etc). we got DS checked periodically by a health visitor and they always told us not to worry.

My sister never rolled. She never crawled, either. But she was walking at a year old.

DD1 was 7 months when she rolled.

DD2 can roll onto her front, but not back over again and she's 11 months. Never crawls, either.

But she does pull herself up to stand and can stand w/one hand holding onto something - although she's trying to stand on her own daily.

My ds didn't roll until he crawled. I think it's quite normal.

My ds didn't roll til after he could crawl either. I put it down to him being too fat! He also hated being on his front, but sat at the right time and crawled more or less on time as well, as he didn't start this of out of a lying position, but more in a leaning forward from sitting position, iykwim

Dd on the other hand rolled around at 6.5m.

Ds "Can" roll but doesn't bother. hes now 8m/o and I can count on one hand the number of times hes rolled back to front and on two hands the front to back.
We make sure he is put on his tiummy as much as possible as hes not worked out how to get there him self , or of course how to sit up again by him self so he does whinge at times on his front

Don't worry! dd2 never rolled at all. Never moved off her backside till 11 months. And that's not unusual.

All babies are different - don't worry! Ds didn't roll at all and wailed every time I put her on her tummy. Didn't sit up until she was 10 months old and never bothered with crawling - just got up and walked at 18 months. I was constantly asking my HV if she was 'normal' and had convinced myself something was wrong. She is now a robust 6 year old more than able to hold her own. Try not to compare your baby to the others in your group - it all gets soooooo competitive!!!
