My boy is 10 months and knows none of that.

And he's not stupid.

Stealth boast if you ask me.

It's not a boasting at all it's just my friend has a baby who is 9 months and a bit who seems to know and try to say a lot more so I was wondering what they should know at this stage

My little girls is 8 months and does not know any of that. My friends baby would understand all of that, but she is 15 months.

Thanks November rain, looks like I will have a chatter box on my hands. I have to spell out bobo to my partner so Lo doesn't go mad Shock

Dd is 10 months and she can say mum, waves, blows kisses and that's it. I'd say she's pretty average. If your baby really understands all that then I'd say they're doing very well developmentally although they all learn things at different rates of course.

That sounds very advanced for a 8.5 month old!

My DS is just 1, he can understand

Banana
Mum
Dad
Water
No
His name
Other stuff I can't think of now

He can point out a couple of things if I ask him to and follow simple commands

He says mamma and dada and I think he's said banana before but not consistently.

I wasn't worried but am a bit now after reading your post!

Please don't be worried after reading it, am sure my Lo is just a bit fasts and will even out and they will all be them same. If I tell Lo to go get favourite toy lo will go pick it out of a pile of toys and the same with book and a few other words

You are right, will probably even out over time. Amongst my friends children, one stood out as being very advanced in communication from an early age. Now, they're all aged 3-4 and they are all at the same level.

DS is 1 in a couple of weeks.
He doesn't say anything. He says repetitions that could sound like words ie ma-ma but also says things like ba-ba. So as far as I'm concerned he has no words yet.
He understands no, this and his name sometimes.
He can't wave, clap, blow kisses etc. but if you ask for a kiss he'll lean in to you with a wide open mouth.
You've no need to worry OP

Sounds pretty advanced for an 8.5month old to me. Mine can't say any of those unless mamamamamama and dadadadadadada count. She understands her name and can copy actions e.g. she'll raise her hand if I wave and try to clap if I do.

TBH I find it hard to believe an 8.5m can uderstand all those words. Are a lot of gestures involved too? If so I'm sure I could push it and say DD understands cat, outside and up (as in pick me up) too.

Lo definitely understands when I say where is you drink her eyes move to her cup and she reaches out for it the same with lots of other things. I put all her toys in a pile and said get your dolly and she went over and lifted it out of the pile. I did this with several different toys and each time she got the right one. She touches her belly if I ask where it is same with ear, also looks at the Lightning I say where's the light. If I say can I have a kiss she blows a kiss and if I say kiss you silly she does the same. Am pretty sure she understands as I don't use many gestures.

I say a word a few times and make a gesture then she will remember it and I drop the gesture and she still knows the word

My 8 month old seems to also understand lots, he learnt to point about a month ago and now points and says "look there" or "that" he can say mamma, no, look, that, there and he can growl like a tiger, woof like a dog and bark like a dog. If you ask him where daddy/mummy is (or different animals or some furniture) he points and says "there!" I'm not sure exactly how much he understands and I haven't been keeping track, although maybe I should incase he wants to know when he's older.

He's my 2nd child and I was quite taken aback when he started pointing and saying words as dc1 didn't point until 12 months and dc1 wasn't even babbling much at 8 months although dc1's speech is great now at the age of 2.

My chatterbox has been a bit slower with physical milestones, he's only just this month started crawling, dc1 crawled at 6 months and was racing around the room pushing a little trolley at 8 months so I think they just focus on different things.

My two year old says two words so I think you're in the clear.
