When do you stop letting them have a bottle?

My 2yo son has a bottle of milk every night before bed and sometimes moans for it in the day. Not sure if its the milk or the soothing effect of a teat on the bottle that he likes, He wakes for it in the night too. Just wondered if he stopped having it in the day would that help at night. He only has it before bed though. Is he too young to take that off him. All other liquids are drank from a beaker with no problem but milk has to be in a bottle for some reason. He wont drink milk from a beaker??? Help please

When they're ready to give it up.

DD1 stopped when she was close to three. She was having it at night - a bottle of water in her bed.

Then she wanted it in a cup so that was it.

I don't see that as being a problem. He is only two, let him have his bottle as a comfort. You may end up with more problems if you try and take it off him! As for the night wakings, maybe leave a bottle of water in his bed?

Thanks i did think it would be a little cruel to take it off him now. Tried the water thing, as soon as he realises it is water he chucks it across the room!!!He wants milk!!!

Well I was mean. At 12 months I binned them all and offered milk in a cup with breakfast and bedtime. He wasnt too pleased about it for a few days and did drink less as well, but, after about a week it was like he had never had a bottle.

My dd is 17mths and is now happily having her milk from a no spill beaker instead of a bottle, which is supposed to be a bit better for her teeth. I tried a few times and a few different cups, and she refused some of them but is happy now. She has a cup last thing at night and first thing in the morning. If it helps them sleep, and drinking milk is good for them I can;t see that its a problem. Dd has a tomme tipee no spill cup.

My Jess is 2 and we tried to switch to those bottles with the spout rather than the teat - no go - she wont even contemplate it. It HAS to be a bottle. If she was still having a bottle at 4 i might worry, but for the time being, im leaving it as it is!

I switched when we moved from formula to cows milk - was mean like ,madmarchhare, put the bottles in the loft for the nest baby and didn't give him much choice. We had severe protesting for a few days but within a week he was happily drinking milk from a soft spout cup and a month or so later he'd hav any cup offered.

Having said thatm if you've l;eft it this long it would be much more difficult totake away knowing my nearly 2 year old - their memories are too good by now! It's the night time waking that would worry me as more of a problem so maybe don't worry about the bottle and try and address that. They say pick your battles - bottle, not worth it, good sleep, definitely worth it!

We took my dd's bottles away on her 3rd birthday and told her the bottles were going to the babies in africa who needed them more! had a few weeks of stressing that she wasnt drinking the same amount of milk but dont think they ever do again! My ds1 is 2 and still having a bottle morning and night! not in any desperate hurry to get rid of them cause i know he will eventually!

with ds1 and ds2 found it easy to substitute teat bottle for new Power Ranger or Ninja Turtle drinking bottle. "Wow! Look at this! Big boys drink out of these.. you just tell me when you want one of these instead of that babies bottle...." I think they both were almost 3 by then. As long as daytime drinks are in cups why add stress to your nighttime routine? DD is now 26 months and still on teat bottle for bed - we'll get there eventually.

15 month old is a great walker and trying to run now, but her legs are a little bow shaped, should i be worried. its mainly from the the knee to the ankle??

no pain or distress just not stright legged. has improved a little but still significantly bowed and mainly noticable with shoes on because angle of shoes is inwards and not straight when walking.
