7mo screams whenever she sees me after turning on hairdryer

I've just dyed my hair and after washing I decided to blow dry it, it's not a colour I haven't had with her before though it is a change from what it was I suppose so it could have something to do with it? But it I red on the hairdryer and she SCREAMED. I have never heard her like that before she was terrified so I turned it off really quickly and went to comfort her and it made her worse, so DH took her and she settled. When she saw me again she screamed again and has been screaming every time she sees me now for an hour and I am devastated, I feel absolutely terrible. How do I make her better I'm really upset I didn't mean to scare her and I feel absolutely awful :(

Is this something she will just forget about? Or will it stick with her for a while- will she still be scared of me tomorrow? I'm absolutely heartbroken she was screaming, like a person inshore or film screams it was awful.

She'll be fine. Have a google for dad shaves off beard - there was a YouTube video that went viral which showed a similar reaction to a father shaving off his beard.

If you're worried cover your hair with a scarf & try gradually revealing it.

It won't take long before she doesn't notice it at all

I'm not sure if it was my hair or the hairdryer :(

Maybe both ! Dd used to like the Hoover - one day she took a massive dislike to it for no reason what do ever.

Cuddle, ignore it will be ok. She will still recognise your eyes and nose ( facial features )

It was awful, she's asleep now but she wouldn't take her bottle from me and every time she saw me right up til she fell asleep she just screamed :( :(

Wow - that's quite extreme. What is the colour change?
I'd suggest that she was possibly overtired. You may find its all good in the morning but she'll be fine by lunchtime.

It might have been the combination of the noise and the colour and she thinks you've been hurt or changed or damaged?

I agree with tying up the hair or wearing a scarf and gradually revealing it, and I'm sure she'll be fine. You'll laugh about it when she's older :)

And perhaps steer clear of any other changes e.g. don't wear any strong perfumes unless you usually wear one, for the next couple of days.

I used to be terrified of hairdryers as a child - not sure why. It may just be that. I must have got over it at some point. Tr? not to worry, I expect it is not unusual.

@treadsoftly - pink to black (pink=maintenance) but I went from blonde to pink possibly 2 weeks ago? I dye my hair a lot tbh I'm surprised it's still present. It was a really extreme reaction it's really made me feel dreadful, I keep getting upset about it it was that bad. DH had to take her away from me leaving me absolutely sobbing with no way to make her better it really was terrible.its not like she hasn't known me to have black hair either though so I think it was just the hairdryer. I turned it in and she jumped so I put it on slowly near her to show her it didn't hurt it it had the opposite effect. I never meant to scare her like that at all and I feel like a completely terrible mum. I never ever want to see her that scared again I don't think I've ever felt so awful in my life!!

It's worth adding that I can't tie my hair up, it's very short haha!

Oh, don't worry :) babies are funny creatures and you don't know what will spook them. Do you have any pictures of you with black hair before?

Thank you bertiebotts you've made me feel lots better :) I sought reassurance from DH and he er... Made it much worse. I was so scared she'd remember and hate me forever (ftm nerves/hormones...)

Prob the hairdryer plus Ms Malificent holding it Grin. My DD was terrified of hand-driers and still really dislikes them at 4yo. Odd

treadsoftly it's funny you said Maleficent, I washed my hair in the bath last night and it went black, DH said it looked like something Maleficent would bathe in haha!
Aw, she's forgiven me now, won't be using the hairdryer in front of her again!
