My 11 yr old has started blinking non stop (almost like hard squeezing of the eyes)!with a little bit of eye rolling. He's never done anything like this before. His Dad does occasionally late at night roll his eyes a tiny bit if his eyes are sore from contact lenses. My son doesn't wear glasses or contacts. I didn't think he had noticed his Dad as tends to be late, but maybe he has and could he be copying? The GP today said his eyes look fine. I feel really anxious for him, especially as he's due to go to high school next summer and hope this isn't the start of something permanent. It's been 5 days non stop and he says he can't help it, please can anyone offer any help?? Thank you! Is it possible to break the cycle at this stage.

has he been unwell lately?
does he have any other movements or tics that have developed in the last few days?

My 5 year old has had this tic for over a year now. It's a tic most likely with your son too. It's tough to watch and unnerving but the best advice is to ignore it and it will hopefully pass. It may turn into another type of tic behaviour once it passes, but generally not anything you can fix or solve so try and keep things calm, happy and relaxed for the wee guy x

yes don't ask about it or make him feel awkward...I'm sure it will pass

Hi BigBumpAgain

My 5 year old DS did this around 12 months ago mostly early in the evenings. After doing some research realised that a growl/clearing of the throat the weeks preceding were connected. When the eye tic stopped another jaw movement took its place. We read that a magnesium supplement helped. Our son probably had three tics on the go at any one given time.

We introduced a magnesium supplement in the form of 10 ml syrup. Amazingly all tics stopped qihin three weeks. Six months on we decided to see what happened if we took it away. The tics returned. We introduced magnesium ayrip again and the tics have gone.

We totally ignored them and never made a big deal about them.
Docs advice was to ignore. Initially we did find it quite distressing as they kind of came out of the blue. He hadn't really noticed at all though younger sibling did.

Hope this helps. Excuse typing am on phone but wanted to respond.

I used to have a blinking tic. It started when i went to secondary school. The other kids did pick up on it so my mum took me to see a hypnotherapist. It really did work. It still occasional returns when I'm tired or stressed but for a few hours only.

Heavy petal, can I ask what magnesium supplement you used. My 7 yr old has tics and I did get the floridax magnesium liquid one but not sure if it's making any difference.
