The 'PeekaBoo Surprise' Viral Dad Beard Video

Has anyone seen that's starting to do rounds around the internet? (Would recommend turning down the volume near the end...)

It shows a Dad playing peekaboo with his little girl, shaving his (rather impressive...) beard and then surprising her with his 'new face'.

Without wanting to stir the pot to any high degree, what do people think about it? From what we've read the parents weren't expecting quite such an extreme reaction, but apparently she was well over it within a few hours. Did you see it as anything more than just a bit of harmless fun?

I think they did just do it as a bit of harmless fun and couldn't have known what reaction they'd get. It could have been utterly hilarious!
It's pretty horrible to watch though, that poor baby!

That's actually just made me cry. Mind you, so does everything since DS was born.

I felt quite sorry for the dad too, my DH would be distraught if dd was terrified of him like that Sad

I think it was just a bit of fun. I have a vivid memory of camping in France when I was young, my dad went off for a morning shower and came back with his beard shaved off. None of us recognised him and thought a stranger was trying to get in our tent!

I think it's just a normal but sad reaction from the little girl.

However hve you seen the clip of the Neman scaring the two toddlers with a scream mask?? It was on some clips on Facebook, they was supposed to be funny.
The poor kids was actually genuinely, and rightly so, terrified. It's just pure evil

I thought it was funny at first, but the more upset she got I felt really bad for them and her, they probably thought she'd be surprised by it and didn't realise what a huge reaction it would cause. It was quite a dramatic change from that beard! I'm pretty sure they weren't trying to upset her though and I'm sure she'll laugh about it in a few years time (after a bit of therapy Grin)

Apparently I had a very similar reaction aged about 2 when my dad went up the stairs with a full, orange beard and came back down clean shaven.

I was howling "wheres my daddy gone? I want my daddy" much to his bemusement.

It was the 70s though, so not filmed for the lols

It freaked me out as a teenager when my dad did it! Didn't recognise him when he came to pick me up from school in the car ("That looks like our car, but who is that man driving it??") and it did take a few days to get used to it.

Having said that, I would totally have done the same as the parents in the video and film the child's reaction, and wouldn't have expected it to be quite so severe. I've often dyed my hair a completely different colour and the children seem unfussed so I'd assume similar about a beard, but maybe not..

I'm not going to watch the video, but DH shaved off his beard when ds2 was about 2yo and he howled and wouldn't go near dh. So he grew it back!
