Hello
My baby has always been very high maintenance and now has started to have tantrums and screaming fits regularly. I'm not sure how to handle these. If she's tired, hungry or wanting milk I can handle it but sometimes it's over nothing. I'm not sure how to deal with them. Do I ignore? Could be problematic if I'm out and about! Or do I try to reassure her and hold her and distract? I'm pretty sure I need to be consistent.

I've always gone down the stay calm and ignore route. I've even walked away in supermarkets. I reckon its a brave person who tried to abduct a screaming child Grin

How's her language? Could you teach her sone signs? Sometimes they get frustrated because they can't tell you how they feel at this age.

There's some good advice on tantrums on adkdrsearsSmile

I always hold dd if she becomes inexplicably distressed, and reassure her that nothing is wrong. It seems to help. Your dd is quite little, so even if ignoring would work when she is older, I'm not sure it would now - I imagine it might inflame her more (I am no expert, though!)
Good luck!

11 months is pretty early. I'd say comfort but not too much attention. Stay calm. I do usually come from the move them to a safe place, ignore and walk away school of thought.

My 11 month ds is exactly the same. He's begun to throw a strop if I take something away from him or won't give him something he wants. We've decided to just ignore these strops and make sure not to give in but if he's having a meltdown over something, we usually give cuddles.

I agree with a pp who mentioned about signing. We have bought a children's book introducing the basics and are going to start trying some out. He's clearly getting frustrated with not being able to communicate better. Bless him!!
