Suddenly not eating.

Is it normal for previously 'good' eaters to suddenly not want to eat anything much at all.

DS - hasn't eaten much for the last two days - not like him at all.

Doesn't seem to be ill!

Hoping someone will come along and tell me it's a phase!!

TIA

might be just a bit hot to eat?

how old is he?
Maybe the heat?
They do go through phases. Perhaps this is one of them. If it lasts for more than a week or so I might begin to get concerned if this is a drastic change from usual.

my ds, previously a very good eater, suddenly stopped at 18 months old. It's turning into an incredibly long phase - he's now 28 months.

But yes, it depends how old your ds is. It's pretty normal for toddlers to behave like this, but probably not for an older child. Are you sure he's not ill or too hot?

Yeah could be the weather. How old is he? My 11 year old went from eating everything in sight to eating very little and losing about a stone in about 8 weeks. Took him to the docs who tested him for worms but all is fine he just eats less now and doc put it down to hormones. Mind you hes grown about a foot in height as quick as he lost weight around his waist! AAAgh more new clothes.....

Not ill, not particularly hot - we were outside for a couple of hours this morning but the garden was in shade and he didn't run around much anyway.

It's breakfast that's worrying me more than anything - he suddenly seems to have gone off everything in the cupboard!!! Made him toast and jam this am (and he loves that) and ended up putting in the bin.

He is drinking loads though - maybe it is the heat!

My 2 year ds has done the same with lunch for about a week but he had a good breakfast and dinner so I woulnt worry too much. Drinking is realy good though. If Im too worried I give ds a milk shake and a nana and he seems quite happy with that and it fills him up till dinner time.

DS 2.7 has always only eaten 1-2 out of 3 meals a day.

He can also go days with barely a cracker and a piece of cheese to eat. Then he spend the next few days eating and eating.

I spent over a year worrying about it but now I am more relaxed as Dr. said his weight is fine and he is tall for his age. he also has loads of energy so thats a good sign that something is going right.

It's a phase.

It's also hot so I don't expect many children are eating normally. Mine certainly isn't.

Could be teeth?

iwearflairs, ime a very small amount of encouragement to get toddlers to eat up is ok but it does depend on the individual child. dd would accept a couple of 'reminders' to eat whereas ds refuses all the more.

It's still amazes me that I can get so stressed over meal times! Although I rarely show it, seems to make things worse.
