Commando style crawling

My ds is 9 months and has been commando style crawling for about 1 month now. Is this anything to worry about, will he progress onto normal crawling. Do I do anything to encourage him to crawl normally?

DS did this for ages. I am sure he was still doing it at 9 months and probably longer. I think he just perfected the art of commando crawling and so didn't see the point of using his knees. He started walking at about 13 months. I think there are all sorts of different methods of crawling - its more about getting from A-B than anything else. Walking (I think) develops from pulling up on things and then teetering from object to object rather than crawling. I think some children don't crawl at all.

My ds started commando crawling at 5-6 months, and kept it up until he walked. Never really tried "proper" crawling. It doesn't seem to have caused any problems.

My DS did this from around 5 months and was walking at 10 1/2 months. I don't think he ever actually crawled on his hands & knees. As long as he could be on the move he was happy.

I don't think you need to get him to crawl normally, it's not a "developmental stage" the way sitting, standing & walking is. Some kids never do it.

DS did this for ages. He never crawled properly and began walking at 13 months.

My friends ds did this and then walked without ever 'proper' crawling.

I apparantly was a bottom shuffler and never even crawled!

dd1 did this, she never crawled 'properly' until just before she began to walk. All babies have their own style of crawling I wouldn't worry....

My DDwas a commando crawler.
Nothing to worry about, just his way of getting around.
It does mean that he may possibly be more likely to be a slightly later walker is all but tbh, so what and it makes your life easier than having to run after a tiny tot 24/7.

With commando's they are less likey to pull themselves up onto furniture as early as a crawler and therefore cruising is more delayed and therefore walking.

Really no biggie though. He obviously will walk and he may not even be delayed in his walking, it's just a bit more likely.

commando crawlers are cool!

My dd did this for ages too then she started cruising, then walking she never actually crawled properly.

I loved watching dd when she commando-crawled; I thought it was a lovely way to get around. There's no need to encourage him to "crawl normally"; for him, this is normal crawling! It doesn't necessarily mean he will be a late walker, although he might; dd commando-crawled but still pulled up on the furniture and cruised within a few weeks, and walked bang on 12 months. Each child is different, that's part of their charm ... and I agree wholeheartedly with Thomcat; commando-crawlers are cool!

All ine did this, it is fine. However, I was told that the cross crawl pattern ( you know, with crawl;ing they use limbs on the different side of the body? Like left arm right leg?) is a useful tool in developing co-ordination and although most kids who never crawl are OK, it can be helpful to do brain gym type things (just moving the alternate arms and legs everyday will do it, getting them to do marching if older). I think we were told five minutes morning and night.

DS1 commando crawled for about a month, from about 7.5 months. I thought he would never crawl properly but he did, and started pulling up at the same time. He walked at 12.5 months.

I noticed this morning that he was rocking on his hands and knees but then went commando style to get going. I like Commando style, very cute! I guess they do whatever they are comfy with and we'll see if things change. Thanks to all for your comments
