What did your 13 or 14 month old eat yesterday?(37 Posts)
Or on a typical day?
I think I am woefully underfeeding mine. She's just isn't very interested, but then feeds every 2 hours overnight .
HI there, mine 14 months, 7.00am half of a french toast(sort of a crunchy toast/biscuit) 9.00am 1 weetabix with milk. 11.30am 6oz of milk before a nap, then lunch which is a slice of toast and with butter and a slice of cheese cut into bits and water. Afternoon she had 1/2 of a banana and 5oz milk. Dinner boiled carrots and vermicelli (2-3 tablespoons) and 4 teaspoons of yogurts. You know baby can be like that what I have done with my first and still do with my baby now is to make sure they are having the right nutrients is if she refuses to eat after dinner I just mix the food with the yogurt and she ends up having it. I did this with my first i know it sounds disgusting but now at 5 she eats everything she eats all vegs and fruits.
Is that how much she eats or how much you give her? How much ends up in her tummy and how much on the floor?
14 month old here.
Breakfast was small bowl cheerios, handful of blueberries and half a banana.
Breastfeed around 11am
Snack - an apple
Lunch - cheese sandwich (1 slice bread), some cucumber, carrot stick, bit of my tuna sandwich
Snack - piece of banana, piece dried mango, a few salt free crisps
Another breastfeed mid afternoon
Dinner - roast dinner (chicken, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, sweetcorn)
Pud - handful raspberries
She is just recovering from a D&V bug though (didn't eat for a week), so she is eating everything in sight.
Hi Oinkment this is what actually she would eat. Part of the dinner sometimes end up on the floor but during the day these are what she eats and finishes and sometimes a whole banana as well.
This is interesting to me as my DS (13m) is a late developer with food (only just got teeth) so am looking for new foods to give him. Yesterday he had:
8am weetabix and milk, with 100ml milk in a cup
11am pear and babybel
1pm ham sandwich (two rounds of mini warbutons bread) and a yoghurt
4pm handful or raspberries and 3 or 4 organix crisps
6pm cottage pie and swede (still has baby jar this meal sometimes tho) and fruit and custard
7.30pm 180ml milk in a bottle
Any suggestions welcome
Sorry oinkment he eats it all as well, none on floor except maybe some babybel
DS3 is 12 and a bit months.
He had a 7oz beaker of formula milk,
bowl of porridge, with honey and blueberries plus a crust from DS2's toast and some foraged cheerios from DS1
snack was half an apple and half a banana and a drink of cows milk
lunch- half a bagel with cheese, 3 cherry tomatoes, 3 rounds of cucumber, about 8 raisins to keep him quiet while I washed up, drink of water
7oz cows milk at 4ish and 4 chocolate buttons from Grandma
dinner was chicken and leek pie with mash, sweetcorn and green beans, followed by stewed apple and custard. Drink of very diluted orange juice.
He drank about 2/3 of his 7oz formula milk before bed.
My 2 year old had pretty much the same food offered but only ate half a slice of toast instead of porridge, the banana, the cheese from the bagel, and the pastry from the chicken pie, and one drink of milk.
At 13 months ish I changed DS' meals to up milk intake in the day so I could nightwean him of BF. it worked with no tears
7.30am - 1 weetabix + milk
10.30am - 120ml formula
12.30 - approx 4/5 cubes of lunch (lentil soup/cauliflour cheese/...) + a yoghurt
4pm - 150-180 ml formula
6pm - approx 4-5 cubes of tea (meat or fish and veg) + pot of fruit puree
Bedtime - breastfeed
If hungry, some bread with or without jam.
DS isnt a huge eater compared to his peers so we try little and often. During growth spurts he'll eat a lot more for about a week then drop right down again.
DD is 13 months yesterday she had
Small bowl of rice crispies (6-7 teaspoons) with whole milk, handful of blue berries (she would eat her own body weight in blue berries if allowed!) 7 am
5 oz milk 9.30am
1/4 slice of bread in morrisons at 10.30 ish
1/2 banana, a fruit pouch, a couple of organix crisps
some Pom bears stolen from DD1 at soft play at 11.30 ish she wouldn't normally have this much but we were having a chaotic day so late lunch!
1/2 cheese and ham toastie for late lunch due to nap 2.30pm (we usually do lunch before nap at 12 ish) small yoghurt
A few slices of apple 3.30pm
3 table spoons of chicken and veg pasta we all have the same for tea 5pm
a quarter of a cookie I will let myself off cause it was home made
5 oz milk 7pm
5 oz milk 1am
every flipping night
My ds is just turned 14 months.
Yesterday she had:
7am approx 7oz milk
Breakfast - 1 weetabix with mashed banana and milk
Snack - a few grapes and cubes of apple
Lunch - cheese sandwich made with 2 slices of bread, a few cubes of cucumber
Tea - fish, mashed potato and lo salt baked beans plus yoghurt to follow.
Bottle of milk before bed
My dd (14 months):
8am - 1 wheatabix with milk, fromage frais, a few grapes and a spoonful of my crunchy nut cornflakes. 100ml milk in a cup.
10am - slice of warburtons fruit toast
11.45am - cheese toastie (2 slices of bread), half a banana
2.30pm - kiwi fruit, a few grapes
5pm - 2 fish fingers, spoonful of peas, 3 mini sweet corns, half a small potato made into potato wedges. A yoghurt.
6pm - 150ml milk.
She also has water/diluted juice whenever she wants during the day.
She seems to eat quite a bit but she's on the 50th percentile so she isn't fat and she's been walking since 10 months so I think she burns a lot off!
7am mahoosive bowl porridge
12pm half cheese sarnie handful quavers (booooo!)
3pm plum, biscuit
5pm bowl pasta, pork, veggies
6.30 boob n bed
As an aside he's only been sleeping through for a month and since night feeds stopped eats loads more.
Whenever we've had days where he's not eaten much I try to remember someone saying that milk is LOADED with calories.
Breakfast - one and a half weetabix with milk. Then 200 ml formula
Lunch - large portion Annabel karmel lentils, passata, carrot, sweet potato and leek. Rice pudding.
Tea - large portion beef casserole. Papaya. Breadsticks and organix tomato crisps to nibble on.
Bedtime - 200 ml formula.
Yes my DD seems to eat plenty she's just a dot though (9-25th centile) so I'm a bit about the night bottle? She never stops though has walked since 9 months and now climbs runs etc
This is good for ideas, have a 13month corrected prem baby. How lumpy do you do your meals? Obviously sandwiches are sandwiches, but do you still whizz or mash some main food meals together?. Baby is a bit developmentally delayed but seems to be coming along with food. Just curious about how lumpy??
Breakfast - 6oz formula, 1 heaped table spoon readybreak, made with cows milk, mixed with fruitpot, followed by some blueberries.
Snack - rusk.
Lunch - cottage pie, yogurt, satsuma, water
4oz cows milk, offered 6 but didn't want it all.
Tea - macaroni cheese with peas, rice cakes
Bedtime bottle, 6oz
Thanks everyone. This is helpful.
she doesn't eat half what your babies do. we offer it regularly and she plays with it and chucks it on the floor. But then she's not hungry because she has milk all day and night. Yesterday and today we are making a conscious effort to get more food into her and less milk at night.
Today she has had...
1 grape, 1 munchy biscuit and 1 bite of peanut butter sandwich for breakfast.
An inch of banana for snack.
3 crisps (accidental, filched from big bro), 1/4 cherry tomato, most of a petit filou and 3 bites of an oat cake for lunch.
A sucky pouch of fruit for snack.
(time difference - it's mid aft here).
My DD is very much the same. Loves milk and for the past week hasn't eaten much at all. She does through ups and downs with eating food.
Today was a brilliant day by our standards
6.30 - bottle of milk
8 - half a banana and yoghurt (good as she was refusing breakfast before)
10 ish - bottle of milk
12 ish - pasta and chicken soup (tiny portion and most on ground)
2 ish - clementine/satsma/mandarin or small orange (loves these)
4 ish - roll of bread and bottle of milk
6 ish - some of my chilli con carne
8 ish - bottle of milk
There will be milk at midnight and in the middle of night if I'm unlucky.
I think DD is a fussy eater and so I am trying a balance between getting her to eat new flavours and getting her to eat anything. She loves those small oranges and bread rolls. I could easily give her only those and milk - if I wanted a quiet life.
She also loves trying to feed herself. So if she is refusing to eat then I give her a plastic head to toe bib and a spoon. That sometimes helps, so does giving her food before milk (although it can turn into a major tantrum).
She will turn her nose up at dishes that I have lovingly prepared for her - then I caught her eating the bloody pet's food!
I was told off by the baby nurse for her drinking too much milk. I pointed out that DD has made herself sick in the past if she doesn't like or want to eat food. But nurse (cow) was insistent that we perserve. I have ignored the woman and think it will come when it comes.
Read "My child won't eat" by Carlos Gonzales for reassurance.
Verybusy I just cut up food into small pieces, as I started weaning at 6.5mo I introduced lumps/finger food from day 1 so he is well used to them.
In a typical meal I leave some things whole for him to eat with his hands like asparagus or carrot batons then the rest I do a mixture of spoon feeding and pre-loaded spoons/forks that he feeds himself.
hi oinkment just wanted to say may be cutting down a bit her milk during the day might help so that she is hungry.
DD1 (almost 13 months but was 7 weeks premature - I've kind of stopped adjusting her age now... but she's the height of a typical 18 month old)
6am - bottle of milk
8am - breakfast - one weetabix biscuit, piece of fruit (think it was pear)
12-00 - lunch - yoghurt-pot sized portion of pasta in a tomato and cram as many vegetables in as I could find in the drawer in the fridge sauce and a yoghurt
4pm - tea - yoghurt-pot sized portion of cheesy veg - basically cauliflower cheese with broccoli, carrot and whatever else I've chucked in there, piece of fruit
6pm - bottle of milk
She's got quite an early bedtime - by 6pm she's absolutely wiped out and will zonk like a light till 5.45ish the following morning. Portions are yoghurt-pot sized purely as that's what I use to freeze them in when I batch cook - varies if I do a finger foody lunch or something spoonable - that just happened to be yesterday.
No teeth (not for want of screaming - we have the first pair taunting me below her gums and not breaking through...they'll break ME before they break the effing gumline!) - doesn't stop her though.
DD has just turned 12 months last week, yesterday she ate:
7am - 8oz milk
8am - a whole pear (chopped into bitesize pieces) plus yoghurt
12.30ish - Heinz steamed meal of pasta&mushroom in tom sauce. Cheese stick&a few apple rice cakes
5.30pm - cod in parsley sauce with mashed sweet potato. Half a custard pot and s handful of raspberries.
7.30pm - 8oz bottle of milk before bed at 8pm
She also has a beaker of very diluted juice which she drinks throughout the day
Some days she eats really well whereas other days not so good...on the days that she will not eat much,I will just try to up the milk intake or give yoghurt ad she NEVER refuses that!
Hope that helps :-)
7.30 - 5oz milk
8.30 - bowl of Shreddies with milk
11.30 - 1 scrambled egg, and about 1/3 of one of those microwave pots of baked beans, fromage frais, some peach slices
2.00 - a Heinz baby biscotti (found a few rattling around that needed finishing)
3.00 - 4oz milk
4.30 - a probably ridiculous amount of raisins
6.00 - slice of fresh bread and butter, a banana
7.30 - 5oz milk
DD wasn't too impressed with food at the beginning, so we started cutting the milk feeds and offering food instead. She still loves milk and I swear if we only offered milk all day she'd be fine with that.
