14 month old still can't get up if lying on back

He has never crawled and perfected the art of bum shuffling. He can walk round the furniture really quickly so am sure he'll take off on his own soon but if I lie him on his back, he's like a tortoise. He can't roll over or get out of that position. Great if I want him to stay put but he just doesn't like being on his tummy. What does worry me is that once he starts walking, how is he going to recover from the inevitable falls? Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

i think that when he starts walking properly, he will have learned the art of getting up from a supine position. my dd is like yr ds and in the past two months she has mastered getting from her back to a sitting position and has just begun to crawl (after always bottom shuffling). wait and watch is my advice Wink
