Sitting up: when did your ds sit up by himself?

My ds, 7 mos, still can't sit up by himself. I'm curious: when do boys generally manage it? Thanks in advance!

7 months - later than they say...

big babies are usually later than their skinny friends. ds sat up properly at just 7 months, but didn't roll till nearer 8 mths.

First 3 (g,g,b) were between 6-8 months. Number 4 (boy) was just a few weeks ago aged 2 1/2, but he has cp.

ds could sit unsupported, if that is what you mean, for about 20 mins at 5.5 months. However he could not sit himself up for another month or two. We used to put him in the v-cushion to practice and then it would not hurt if he toppled over (so long as he went the right way of course!)

My ds could be put in a sitting position and precariously balance for a few minutes at 6months, but couldn't sit well until about 8months.
Lou33, congratulations to your ds!

My ds nearly 8mths is now sitting unsupported well. Today in his stroller when I was trying to get him to sleep by going for a walk he grabbed the bar that goes over his legs and pull himself up to sit, but this is only a this week development. For the previous 2 weeks he was sitting very wobbly and toppling over. He is 9kg.

Here in Germany they think it is an absolute no no for a baby to sit, till they can get into a sitting position all on their own from their stomach/side- which I don't think ds will be able to do for a while yet. They think it injures their back and disrupts the normal progression of movement and muscle development. I have to hide the sitting from my baby play group and some friends.

Thanks Aloha! Dh also taught him to drink from a normal cup about 10 days ago, so a flurry of achievements!
