No gestures at 9 months. Should I be worried?

My DS makes no gestures to communicate (that I'm aware of). I'm presuming the simplest one is to raise his arms when he's laying in his cot to be lifted? He doesn't do this

He is generally laid back but quite stubborn, if that makes any difference! He's been quite late to do several things, i.e. won't eat lumps or finger foods, can't crawl yet (though desperate to). He babbles, sits up well, reaches for toys, loves to cuddle etc but I don't know how worried I should be about this lack of gesturing. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

also think it sounds okay, particularly as he's babbling.

DS wouldn't eat finger foods until 13 months(!)

Well, mine is 9months old and it's just in the past week that he has began to crawl! Mine won't eat lumps or finger food either! I give him cubes of cheese and he squashed them in his hands!! He will take a small finger of bread, and chew on it, but then we hear him choking! He is totally different from my 3yr old when she was a baby! She would have ate anything at all!!

Mine reaches to be lifted, but thats generally cos I put MY arms out and don't lift him until he reaches out

How about babbling.. is he babbling and making noise? Mine regularly scolds and shouts, mama, dada, (his sisters name whoch isn't hard to say!) I wouldn't worry to be honest. He sounds normal. Has he had his 8month assessment at the HV yet? I'm sure if they had any concerns they would have mentioned them to you

Yes he's had his 8 month check- they said dev't is in normal limits and most concerned about the eating thing as he is sick on anything non-puree.

He babbles fine. Nothing mentioned about the gesturing though she did seem a little concerned that he wasn't waving! Not panicking about that one just yet. I put my arms into his cot and only occasionally will he go to touch them, and not in a 'can I come out' way at all!

Sounds normal to me too. Think my DS was 10 months before he properly held his arms up to be picked up and in the same month learnt both clapping and waving and now at 14 months he doesn't stop!

It's like most things that LO's do, one minute they can't, the next they can. It's like it happens overnight sometimes. Same with crawling - he'll just get there one day.

Wouldn't worry about the lumpier food either, we spent ages fretting about it and at 12.5 months he began to tolerate it more and more, it was just a case of perseverance and practice for him(my DS woudl gag too).

Nothing to worry about IMO.
