It's a nice meaning but could end up with "lunatic" or "loony" as nicknames! Lana, Lunetta or Lana might be safer bets.

My DH is always telling our DDs "stop behaving like a loon", so it probably would have been a good name for one of them.

I can see it's quite a pretty name, but I imediately associate it with "lunatic" so it's a No from me.

I have taught a Luna and think it's a lovely name (and a delightful child). I've never heard her be teased for being loony/loopy/whatever.

Certainly not made up. Means moon in latin (hence luna-tic= influenced by the moon). I know one she is the loveliest person I have ever met.
