Water type names boy/girl

Either I am having one of my more hippy-woo hormonal moments or following pure logic without perhaps common sense, but...

All my 3 DC's have names whose meaning involves water, as does one of my names. I only found this out after #3 was born. Mostly I have chosen names cos I like the sound of them.

Would it be daft to choose only from names that have this connection for DC#4; and could anyone help me out with suggestions? So far without including my 3 I have;

River
Avon
Douglas

.....

Evian sounds cute to me - odd but cute!

IF you did't do it deliberately for the first 3 DC then it seems a bit odd to restrict yourslef for DC4. Having said that:

Isla
Isis
Tarn
Lake
Calder

After 3 kids it is hard enough to choose a name, having some kind of restriction helps!

Any opinions?

Moana is the maori word for sea, it is used in NZ as a girl's name (pronounced Moh-arna).

I think it's lovely.

Thanks, Rodent it is a lovely name but better with a NZ family connection, I think. Still, will add it to the list to argue over with DP!

I like Mara, gaelic for sea. Considered it myself.

Maris/Marisa - latin? Doesn't stella maris mean star of the sea?

Have you got an Ava already? Only that has some kind of watery connection IIRC

Report
frankenfanny · 20/06/2010 23:40

No Ava here! IIRC myself I think it is related to Avalon, which is water-related.

Murray means 'seaman' apparently.

I know a gorgeous Italian woman called Mariana. (all varieties of Mary/Marie have a water meaning too)
Whitney means 'from clean water', and associations to Ms Houston will soon be fading.
Ianthe means 'of the ocean' in Greek (she was the daughter of Oceanus in Greek mythology). Nickname Thea.
Darya is Persian for 'the sea'.
I like Shannon too.

What about the name of a river, lake or sea that is special to your family, where you live, where you've been on holiday? (I'm thinking more Nene, Derwent, Ness, Lochlan... than Mersey, Windermere or Thames.) Just a thought!

have none to add, just think it's a lovely tradition and looks like barely any restrictions - there are tons of gorgeous names there!
