I currently have a 4 year old James Patrick Theodore and a 19 mo Joseph Paul Malachi (James because is just suited him, as well as being one of the 12 disciples, Patrick because he was due on that day, and is grandfathers name, Theodore as it means 'Gods gift - Joseph because it suited him (took a week to name him!) and father of Jesus, and have an uncle Joseph, Paul because it means small and he was 10lb 4oz , also have a cousin of that name, and Malachi after the saint) I want to stick with the names of Saints, but have a bit of meaning too. Irish names preferably. Michael has stuck abit, but I am not 100% sure... It took me a few days to name DS1 and over a week for poor DS2 so want to have a good idea this time Thanks

Oh, and baby is quite likely to be quite small so have to steer clear of any possible 'nicknames' - I am afraid Michael has already been tainted with the possible "pint sized Mike"

Like Michael a lot. Simple, classic and under-used in this generation.

Irish names that aren't really 'cultural' (I do love a good 'Oisin', but it seems like you are looking for something more mainstream?):

Tomas
Aidan
Brendan
Ciaran
Hugh
Liam
Sean
Pearse
Rory (Ruairi if you want the Gaelic spelling)

If you like biblical names that aren't too out there:

Gabriel
Aaron
Joel
Joshua
Luke
Matthew
Benjamin
Adam

I love love love Gabriel, but teachers reading a register will probably say Gabrielle and it is open to alot of teasing

I don't mind Irish Irish names Am liking Ruairi and Pearse (Peirce?) ...

I had Francis as a possible (esp. middle name - as you can see I need 3 names ) but again, is that abit 'cruel'?

Long running family joke about "Brendan" in our family, which is a shame as I love that name too. Ciaran is quite popular now (in all it's guises).

Not sure what part of Ireland you're from, but Martin is a huge Connemara name - and seems to tick the boxes of mainstream, biblical connection, oh, and he'd probably be the only one in the class.

I had Martin down for DS2 - thing is I have 2 uncles (brother) Joseph and Martin and their sister (my mum) is Mary which is my top girl name for the future so will be naming alot of children after those siblings, IYSWIM. Plus the child in me keeps thinking "Fartin' Martin" I do love it though... will write it down

Always think if you have two starting with the same initial then all of your children should have the same initial (maybe that is just me being stupid though!) but that is why my suggesions all start with J!

Jacob (LOVE THIS)
Jack
Justin
Jude
Joshua (gorgeous)
Jeremiah
Jarrod
Jasper
Jason
Jed
Jordan
Julian

That's what happened to the Duggars - they named 2 with J, then they felt if they only had one more it would feel left out and ended up with 18 (?) Js! My 2 Js were by chance, I love Joshua but am avoiding because people may think I am abit bonkers with all Js...

you're making me feel better hearing it took you a week to name DS2. I've just started the Brodie or Fergus thread about my 3rd boy who is five days old and still nameless - everyone is getting at me to get it sorted and it's doing my nut in.

I'm married to a Michael so obviously fond of that one - he doesn't get called Mike - always Michael.

I've got you a link but you may have found it www.namenerds.com/irish/saint.html#m

I like Eoghan (owen) - my Irish fiend also has an Eoin (owen) and I think it looks and sounds beautiful
