Nellie/Nelly...

Old fashioned but sweet I think. Quite strong too. Only possible prob, being her last name would also be two syllables and beginning with 'N' so possibly a bit too cute? How would you spell it?

very Zoe Ball and Fat boy Slim

I wouldn't, just incase the wee soul is on the tubby side as a baby

would you not consider Helena or Penelope with Nelly as a nn?

Yep - you want to hope that she isn't fat or you may get horrid people whistling the tune to nelly the elephant whilst she is about.

mmm, not really a fan of Helena or Penelope - looks as though I'm destined to pick a rubbish nick-name-for-real-name for my daughter!!

Ooh and didn't know about zoe ball - darn it!

I prefer Helena, Eleanor and Penelope. It's a sweet nick name which might or might not suit a little girl, so put one of the longer names on the birth cert. Just in CASE she is on the tubby side (like about 30% of the adult population)

If I had had a dd, then Nell would have been on my list of possible names after a grandmother. I think it is very pretty.

I love it - in fact we called our little dog Nell! My only worry is at school being called Nelly the Elephant or 'smelly nelly' - but it is a lovely name

LOVE Nell. Not so keen on Nelly/ie.

Personally would go Helena or Elinor with NN Nell.

I'm a Nell, after my dad's auntie who looked after him a lot as a child. My full name is Helen though, which I tend to use outside of family.

Nell is beautiful, not so keen on Nellie/y.

Friends were going to call their DD Nellie, but decided that if she ended up carrying a little extra weight, it just wouldn't be fair.

I like Nelly (better with a "y" I think), would use Eleanor as full name though (unfortunately it has been veto'd by DH ).
