We've really struggled to find names for baby bump number 2 (we don't know the sex). We already have an 18 month old boy called Isaac and have chosen a name for a DD which we love but with boys we're finding it so much tougher! I'm sure it's partly that we we adore the name Isaac so can't imagine a little boy called anything else but please can you let me know your thoughts on the following...

By the way I'm 35 weeks and very preggers hormonal so please be kind - I'm like a soggy sponge at the moment so it doesn't take much to get the tears flowing!!!

Noah - like this lots but can't come up with a nickname! We shorten Isaac to Ike and Ikey which I love and it would be great to find a way to do the same with Noah. Also worried that Isaac and Noah together sound a tad TOO bibilical or like we should be sitting in a horse and cart (but am I just being silly?).

Evan - Same nickname conundrum as above.

Oscar - Oz or Ozzie for short

Archie - probably shortened to Arch

Jonah - but this is probbaly my least loved of them all at the moment.

Am actually wondering why shortening the name to a nickname is so important to you.

If you like a name, just go with it, don't worry about the nickname, because the chances are in a few years time you will be referring to your child by their full name anyway.

Also, I have three children and I have actually added to their names rather than shorten them... My first child is R- Doodle, my second is N*-Oliblobs and my third is Gnomie!

Sorry - should have explained a wee bit better. It's not too much a nickname we're looking for but more a soft/alternative shortening we can use from time to time. I suppose because it's something we do with my little boy already we've got into the habit ans so think about it with new name suggestions. It wouldn't need to be anything that could be used as he gets older but I was just wondering if anyone else with DS called Evan or Noah has nicknames they use. Know it probably sounds nuts... x

Don't think choosing Noah or Jonah sounds too biblical at all, it's not as if you're naming him Judas or Methuselah! Noah or Oscar would be lovely with Isaac.

Archie is a good name but it is an abbreviated name already, and 'Arch' to me sound just wrong, reminds me of eyebrows!

Would throw into the mix two other favourites that are similar but less commonly used: Arthur/Artie or Albert/Albie

The only one I dislike is Evan, since I associate it with the shocking seminal documentary "The trouble with Evan".

I dont understand why you would want to shorten Archie to Arch, Archie is already a shortened version of Archibald. My ds is called Archie and it really suits him.

Noah is yummy - doesn't need a nickname and anyway, you'll probably find yourselves calling him all sorts of things: eg my Isobel is often known as Boo.

I don't like Evan or Archie. Love Oscar but really don't like Oz or Ozzie.

My girls have "pet names" but neither of them are actually derivations of their names - one of them is called Bunches McFlumpity...

So call him whatever name you like without worrying about teh shortened pet form - you can find ANY name, from Sausage to Baby-Boo to fulfil that need.

Noah - I like a lot, I wouldn't worry about it not having an obvious nickname at all. It's quite short anyway. It is popular though, but you know that.

Evan - I'm not keen, but that's because I know an odd Evan. It's not too popular, is not that unusual so it's not a bad choice at all.

Oscar - far too recently popular, has risen from nowhere and I think may be short lived.

Archie - Archie is a nn

I vote for Jonah, which can be shortened to Joe. Or Joseph, Josiah, Jeremiah. I also like Asa (keeps the biblical theme going). Have you considered Nathaniel or Nathan? (nn Nate or Nat)
