Is it Harriet? or is Hattie a name on its own and not short for anything usually?

Harriet I thought. (I knew a Henrietta who was Hettie)

Bizarrely I know a Hester who shortens it to Hattie.

Henrietta can be shortened to Hettie AND Hattie.

Hattie can be a name in its own right (my SIL's name). I had a rabbit called Hattie short for Harriet when I was little. It's lovely.

Harriet. It's my sisters name - she used to be shortened to Hattie, but now as a grown up uses Harriet.

Tis a goodly name.

Harriet is 6 months and on my profile. Also gets Hattie and Hatts and Hattie-Pops. Her second name is Poppy as dd1 was determined Poppy would be her name since I was 6 week pregnants.

Our first is 'Just Jessie', she tells people, very seriously, about the whole Jessica thing. These things are very important when one is 4.9

treedelivery - your dd1 sounds like my dd1 (she is 4.10!) she moans her name (Ellie) is boring now and shes had it almost 5 years now and maybe we should change it (although she wants us to call her Odette!) our Hattie is also called Hatts most of the time too!

My sister tells me that the problem with being called just 'Hattie' is that it doesn't make a good adult's professional name. She thinks it sounds terribly twee posh little girl coming out of ballet class.

my DD2 is a Harriet but often called Hattie and Hattie-pattie (have no idea why)

Hattie is also a short form for "Hedwig", at least I have encountered such a case in late 19th century.
