we had this on our list after emmet fox one of my favourite theologian writers but one of the vampires in Twilight was called emmet and i just felt that people would assume he was named because of that and that didn't appeal...especially as there is going to be at least another two films in the coming years....it also killed off Rosalie for us....

I wouldn't worry about the Twilight connection - I think that's far more likely to cause a rapid rise in the number of little Edwards/Isabellas than the number of Emmetts, because he's not one of the main characters.

It's also a very Protestant name in Ireland. (I think - could be wrong)

I agree with the West Country thing, it's the cornish word for ant and used alot down here. I can imagine that someone on the beach shouting for Emmet may get a few raised eyebrows at the least.
