Baby names

Celeste or Celestine?

Hello,

We're expecting our first baby in June, I'm hoping for a girl (i come from a totally female family but sod's law is it will be a boy)

I really love Celestine but my partner says it reminds him of celery and that he prefers Celeste. I used to go to school many moons ago with a slightly chavvy Celeste but i've never met another.

does anyone have anything to say about either Celeste or Celestine that may swing the vote?

Thank you x

I think that I prefer Celeste but both are lovely names imo. I think it depends upon how each one would flow when said aloud with your surname and any middle names.

I like Celeste too.
My ds was going to be Cecile if he was a girl, but as we already had a Claudia, but dh was unsure on two names starting with C.
I agree with Ladidadi it depends how it flows with other names.

Congratulations btw.
Do you have a name in mind it baby is a boy???

I absolutely love Celeste. That is how I wanted to call DD but DH didn't like it.

Celestine is cute too but perhaps more suited to someone younger. Might be lovely on a fresh faced baby but harder to carry for a 40yo

I knew a lovely Celeste, and prefer it out of the two.

Celeste is lovely.

The only one I know is the dd of two teachers.

Celestine sounds like a kind of monk, or that hippy-mysterious-psychological book a few years ago that you were supposed to pass on to someone else to read. Shudderment!

I prefer Celeste, it sounds nicer, I don't think it's chavvy.

All the Celestine's I have known have been male and from Africa actually but I do think it could work for a girl.

I love Celeste. And you will be able to buy her one of these

Just to go against the trend I prefer Celestine. TBH though, they are both gorgeous so it's win win

I prefer Celeste.

Historic chavvy Celeste's will be forgotten once you associate the name with your DD instead.

Prefer Celeste. I know a Celestine and she's French. So I always think you have to be French.
LOVE lots of French names though...

Sorry, again: this

Celeste - doesn't it come from the Latin, coeli, meaning heaven? Gorgeous name.

I prefer Celeste. Am I showing my age to mention Babar the Elephant and his wife Celeste?

Celestine was on my list and I think it's really pretty (got the no vote from DH though) . re whether or not it suits a younger/older person you could go with Celestine and she could shorten it to Celeste if she wanted.

Prefer Celeste - reminds me of Babar too and I'm not that old at all!

Report
Pasiphae · 13/02/2009 12:42

Celeste is nicer. Babar is a really good source for name inspiration.

Babar and Celeste - gorgeous!

I haven't ever heard the name Celestine but either seem to me quite unusual and pretty. If you look hard enough I bet you could find chavvy/other undesirable examples of any name under the sun being used - it is a way to madness I reckon!

I love celestine but that's because it reminds me of the Kirtsy McColl song (not sure of the title but think it is Celestine)

Maybe not what you were looking for but I still like it!!!

Celestine

Oh she is hot, she?s hot, she?s hot
She?s just a wild and wicked slut
And she lives inside my head and stops me sleeping
And when I think she?s finally gone
Some guy arrives and turns her on
Then she parties until dawn
This can?t go on
Celestine
Get out my dreams
You?re killing me so slowly

So many men, so many fights
So many parties and late nights
She plumbs the depths and hits the heights
That celestine
She pretends that she can?t hear me
She pretends she?s nowhere near me
She just goes quiet and pretends that she?s not in
But celestine I know you?re there
In your exotic underwear
And you are fixing up your hair now, celestine

Celestine
Get out my dreams
You?re killing me so slowly

My lover looked into my eyes
And I could tell by his surprise
It was not me he saw in there but celestine
And now it?s her that he lusts after
I can hear that wicked laughter
Still he comes to me but I know where he?s been

Celestine
Get out my dreams
You?re killing me so slowly

Celestine
Get out my dreams
You?re killing me so slowly

My lover hasn?t got a clue
He doesn?t know that he?s untrue
And it?s not me he makes love to but celestine
Oh yes she?s hot, she?s hot, she?s hot
I guess she?s everything I?m not
And she lives inside my head and stops me sleeping

I think Celeste is gorgeous- it's short & cute sounding and v v likely that there won't be another one in the school year or maybe even the whole school?!
